Another VT shooting

Suspect still at large, police officer and another person shot, campus on lockdown.

Cool As Ice Cream 12-08-2011 03:01 PM

Suspect remains at large. A police officer has been shot. A potential second victim is reported at the Cage lot. Stay indoors. Secure in place.

Cool As Ice Cream 12-08-2011 03:31 PM

it's the news. dude.

sppunk 12-08-2011 03:38 PM

Two confirmed dead. Officer killed after making routine traffic stop.

Colleges on the list of "not for my kids": Penn State, VT

sppunk 12-08-2011 03:59 PM

Add Syracuse, the Citadel and ND. And that Florida school where the band guy got killed recently.

lol wtf? 'cause of the lift accident?

Eulogy 12-08-2011 04:09 PM

because that's comparable to a university-wide, systematic cover up of untold instances of child rape or two on campus shootings in a four year period.

please.

JokeyLoki 12-08-2011 04:10 PM

Yeah, what happened at Syracuse and ND?

one assistant basketball coach is accused of molesting three different kids (one of which has been thoroughly discredited). but there is no indication that anyone at the university knew anything about it, unlike at penn state.

at ND, last year a student was filming football practice from a scissor lift when it was way too windy to be doing so. it fell over and he died. very sad. but as a result they don't even use those anymore.

bottom line, neither situation is comparable to penn state.

JokeyLoki 12-08-2011 04:16 PM

Aaah. Yeah, I wouldn't call those as bad.

sppunk 12-08-2011 04:28 PM

VT didn't cover up a shooting spree, so by that theory lumping them is wrong.

I was just talking about schools where bad bad things have happened recently at fault of the school.

Eulogy 12-08-2011 04:31 PM

that's casting a net that is both over- and under-inclusive and essentially useless

yo soy el mejor 12-08-2011 04:33 PM

i tripped at school once. totally the school's fault.

sppunk 12-08-2011 04:35 PM

So is saying you won't send your kids to two schools that have had bad things happen in the past. The chance of your kid getting shot, raped, killed at football practice, etc. is very very slim.

Back to VT: any news on capturing the suspect?

well sure but there is something to be said for stigma. which i don't think does/should really exist at VT. at PSU though? i wouldn't want to send my kid there either. too much complicity in the administration.

Future Boy 12-08-2011 05:40 PM

i guess brady will be around later

yo soy el mejor 12-08-2011 05:40 PM

"Another TV shooting" parody thread is imminent

sppunk 12-08-2011 06:34 PM

The second dead body supposedly is the shooter.

Order 66 12-08-2011 06:46 PM

Dont you need a license for those things over there/in the license don't you learn to not be a dick about being up in poor conditions/did the unit have outriggers and were they extended or was it an indoor lifter being used outdoors?

Eulogy 12-08-2011 08:39 PM

it wasn't an indoor lift. that's the only question i know the answer to.

duovamp 12-08-2011 08:57 PM

So was this a VT shooting, or was this a shooting that happened to be on VT property?

i read something that said it came out of a routine traffic stop, which would make it seem like the latter

Cool As Ice Cream 12-13-2011 06:39 PM

did you people hear about the shooting in belgium?
some guy started throwing grenades and shooting on a christmas market. and then committed suicide. 4 others died, including a one-year-old. over 120 victims survived. apparently the shooter was standing higher up, which would explain the high amount of victims.
