I Am One

played for the first time live since 2000

http://crestfallen.com/2011/11/30/ti...ayed-in-italy/

fan shot.. audio a little rough

amoergosum 11-30-2011 06:40 PM

...awful performance...especially the drumming.

This clip made me feel good again >>>

paranoid 11-30-2011 06:54 PM

All of Mike's snare rolls makes this sound like a fucking 311 song. Way to go!

Christ. Billy spends the past how ever many years bitching about how james and darcy couldn't play, then he goes and replaces 75% of his band with people that can't play.

MyOneAndOnly 11-30-2011 06:56 PM

that's one of the only songs that I think didn't benefit in any way from the heavy treatment they gave most of the songs on that tour

houseofglass11 11-30-2011 06:58 PM

Sounds like BC's mic is barely on at all.

Jeff is as good on guitar as billy is. And nicole is as good as anybody who's played bass in the band in the past.

they're different musicians with different styles. they aren't ever going to sound like 3 other people did in 1991.

Yeah, we all fell in love with the sound those 3 people did though, not these assholes.

I don't care how "good" they are, they will always suck a fucking dick.

Caine Walker 11-30-2011 07:20 PM

that wasn't really any worse than any of the other songs they've been playing on this tour.

mehs all around.

If by good you mean lacks any musicality and a total sense of where he's going when he's playing, and lacks any inkling of creativity, then yes, he's GREAT!

Nicole blows. in fact, if all three have one thing in common, is that they're all aimless players and have no fucking clue what they're doing. There is a gigantic contrast between billy's musical ability on the guitar and how those three play. it's laughable, and embarrassing.

They've all had their chances to prove themselves, and they've been on two tours in the past two years, and they still suck. not good.

paranoid 11-30-2011 07:46 PM

go listen to the gish/sd bonus content, and the live dvds, then watch this video and try to convince me that this is anywhere up to par with standard pumpkins quality.

See thats just some bullshit cop out line you throw out now and then. I don't see whats wrong with not liking the sound they have at this time. What, i'm not allowed to say that they don't sound as good as the sound I grew up liking? I'm sorry that I just can't force myself to like it. I just can't. Its not like I haven't listened to the music or haven't listened to the live performances. I have, and each and every time it doesn't compare. Are they good musicians, sure i guess. Together, they don't hold any resemblance to the pumpkins of old. I'm not gonna pay for a product thats pumpkins in name only. I'm not eulogy, I don't care if they play every damn song ever written.

Now go back and stick your head ups montes ass.

lucid_interval 11-30-2011 08:04 PM

Well said esty, how you doing old chap

great poster 11-30-2011 09:16 PM

wow, has it really been 11 years since they've played it? damn, i swear they played it in 2007 at least. anyway, i don't like it a whole lot, granted it has been a long time since they've played it and i'm sure they'll improve. probably not, though. actually, i think i'm going to listen to the 2000 performance instead.

Byrne was great when i saw him but he needs to work on I Am One for sure.

what kind of mental deficiency could lead a person to this kind of conclusion? Jeff is a good guitarist and he is better than James Iha, but :erm:

houseofglass11 12-01-2011 12:37 AM

Jeff isn't even as good as James, let alone Billy.

Jeff has great technique, but technique does not make for a good guitar player. James has tons more musicality and creativity.. i'd take James over Jeff any day.

Also, I'd like Jeff to write a song up to par with The Boy, Blew Away, Go, etc. Hell I'd like to see SP3 write something up to par with those songs.

stumpycat 12-01-2011 01:28 AM

Jeff is comparable to Billy in ability? That's just delusional. The only explanation is that Scottytheoneand's head is busy preventing a melt down of cognitive dissonance.

Normally, I do not find that Nicole's bass tones detract, but here it sounds fucking awful, as in "tinny wet farts" awful.

Also, the comment about "311 drumming" is pretty spot on when I think about how the jaunty shuffle of Grassroots compares to this. :erm:

lala 12-01-2011 03:10 AM

people who give shit to mike are d-bags. go listen to skysaw

fuzzyroes 12-01-2011 04:45 AM

Come on man, Mike totally butchered this song. And unlike Jimmy he has no real driving pulsating sound... It really detracts from the charm of what made the old songs great.

Exactly.
I've been wondering about this....how is it possible that a musician like
Billy Corgan can be satisfied with them?
The only answer I can come up with is that he has such a big desire
for harmony on a personal level that he doesn't care about what a band
makes great anymore.

...when you think trolling/living in denial can't reach a new level...

fuzzyroes 12-01-2011 05:26 AM

I have moved on... But its no reason for me to wear rose colored shades when forming an opinion on this new band Billy started... The chemestry is flat and the skill level of the new musicians is obviously very inferior to the people in Billys old band.

CrabbMan 12-01-2011 05:45 AM

Billy is the 1%.

are you saying darcy is better than nicole??? omg  please be quiet
are you saying james is better than jeff??? go listen to james's solo effort. it is crap! go listen to tinted windows! crap  :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

MyOneAndOnly 12-01-2011 09:47 AM

most of Jame's solo work is just plain boring. he should stick to producing shitty bands.
D'arcy was never a great bass player. She and James were NEVER in the same league musically as Billy and Jimmy were.

If you don't believe billy, take Jimmy's word for it.

He was clearly referring to the first rehearsals.

Pizza Club 12-01-2011 10:54 AM

The quality of that video is too poor to judge the performance of that song. The tease they did on the American tour was pretty cool though.

MyOneAndOnly 12-01-2011 11:27 AM

The tease did sound good live. I don't understand why they weren't playing the whole song on the US tour. would have been better than listening to them just jam like that.

lala 12-01-2011 12:05 PM

listen to shows from 99 ... if you can hear darcy's bass you are a super human.

When they started playing this at Brixton (after an entirely-underwhelming Ruby), I found myself shaking my (lowered) head in dismay. It was embarrassing, and painful to hear. I was trying to keep an open mind about Mike, but his drumming ruined the old songs. I was praying that they didn't attempt Tonight, Tonight; when I heard they'd played it on the second night I actually felt relieved to have escaped. :erm:

 yeah it is not possible to hear darcy's bass in 1999, she was barely standing and you could only hear iha when he would fuck up ... which was on almost every song. yeah that is talent
