that is a fair statement but it was just online EPs. all the bands/people i follow made bad albums ... the cure, neil young, NiN, bowie, dylan, etc. and than they made great albums again. billy can do it again and he is on the right track with oceania from what I can hear.

A quick recap of this comment >>>

"from what you can hear" is the key words. Corgans been butchering songs in the studio like crazy as of late. And even so the live renditions of the Oceania tracks aren't exactly getting me stoked or anything. Some tracks sound promising but none of them get me excited or anything...

But I guess Oceania is a make it or break it album for me. So I'll have to wait and see... Keep in mind after Jimmy left Billy went off about how the new stuff will be incredible and blow our minds and we got the Teargarden debacle....

Whatever though. Corgans an amazing musician. He's created a huge body of work that I've enjoyed greatly. So even if all his new music is shit he's still given me a lot of listening pleasure.

I don't view it that way.

Billy is still writing great songs. I didn't care for some of the old stuff. Ive never been a huge fan of Gish, for instance. I'd rank it near the bottom on my list. I absolutely hated Zwan at the time (grew on me after the fact) And I don't like some of the newer stuff either. I was slamming the horrible studio version of Owata as much as anybody earlier this year.

I have no problems with Mike. I like Nicole too. I like that the new band is not much like the old SP. The new band is simply different musically. I'm OK with that. If they weren't touring as SP, Billy would still have these people together probably making the same songs.

Even if it's the Billy Corgan Project I'm going to listen to it. He's a better songwriter/musician than 99% of what's out there today (new or old). And the fact that he's bipolar and prone to outbursts just makes it more fun to spectate.

If I'm guilty of anything it's misjudging the depth of emotion that some people on the board have for the old band. It's always impressed me as petty and shallow and just arguing for the sake of arguing. Maybe I was mistaken. And I get that. But just because I think the new rhythm section is good doesn't mean that I'm an apostate, or that I'm shitting on Jimmy's legacy or anything.

late to this, quit posting.

The problem I think with Corgan's band today compared to the past is ths: he used to be a perfectionist that didn't settle for anything inferior in his eyes. The past few years he isn't a perfectionist and is ok with subpar performances.

He seems to have little drive to create anything like the power the true SP had going, regardless if it were the Gish or Adore era.

You could tell from the Arising! to Machina tour, something changed in Billy and his music/band has never been remotely the same.

This version of I Am One is worse than a shitty cover band's attempt.

if he used to be a perfectionist he wouldn't have had James and D'arcy in the band.

shit happens.

Yeah it sounds like Byrne just smashes the drums without using proper technique that people learn in beginners lessons. Its as if hes not holding the sticks correctly or something. He always just sounds so "clunky" for lack of a better word.
