Fair enough dude. I can agree with most of that... Billys a great musician and I'll still follow him and keep up to date with his music. Its the people that say that the new band is better than the old that just make me roll my eyes... Or people who say Jeff is better than James or that Nicole is better than Darcy or that Mike does Jimmys parts justice. Its just moronic and untrue. If it was the Billy Corgan band and they played 2nd rate versions of the SP classics it would be respectable and understandable. But dont call that shit Smashing Pumpkins.

For those idiots who say Jeff is better than james/ Nicole is better than Darcy/ Mike is better than jimmy I have some homework for you to do... Simply watch this video



1. Notice how precise and powerful Jimmys drumming is. Notice how he can do machine gun fills while jumping back into the song without missing a beat and not sounding completely sloppy doing so. His intensity and skill drive this whole masterpiece. A skill Byrne doesn't possess.

2. Notice how James and Darcy are actually full on into the music, rocking out just getting overtaken by the rad music they're playing. The new band stands around awkwardly with blank stares on their faces like they can hardly wait for the show to be over to cash their checks.

3. Notice how James has such a distinguished lead guitar tone and how he plays with such character. He may not have the best technical chops but he comes up with atmospheric parts that totally enhance the song. His noodling around in this performance seems better than any of the crap I've heard Jeff play... And he doesn't have an annoying coldplayesque reverb on all his leads like jeff.

4. Darcy may not be the best singer but her voice meshes well with Billys here and adds to the uniqueness of the song. Nicoles back ups stick out like a sore thumb and sound weird and totally out of place... Yeah I may be going out on a limb with this one but honestly... atleast Darcy backs up Bill and doesn't try to steal the show with her shitty vocals.

And finally 5th: The band just sounds great together. They built up a pure chemistry through all the playing and creating together that it just cant ever be replicated... Billy can say hes the head hauncho and that the bands still SP as long as hes in it but this whole concert pretty much proves that assumption to be false.


So in conclusion, seeing these classics performed how they are today as the Billy Corgan project or something would be feasible and sorta cool... But it sure isn't performed at the level the "real" smashing pumpkins would perform it.

I can respect the shit the new bands performing and I'll buy the new album to check it out. I only went on this rant to explain my opinion to the morons who glorify the new band while shitting on the old... I could see if its just peoples way of trying to support the new band but a lot of the morons on this site seem to genuinely believe the shit they're spouting.

So I apologize to any of the people who read through this rant who know this all to be common sense. Just wanted to argue this ridiculous debate once and for all haha.

I really can't tell if you're trolling or not. Nobody ever liked Billy Corgan because of how well he could sing. While from a completely technical standpoint, I suppose that your argument is correct. He technically sings better today then he did during that period.

But even if BC had the best voice coaches in the world working with him 24/7 for years he would never have a "good" singing voice. I think he was aware of his limitations in the period you referenced. He made up for talent with emotion.
