personally, i don't think james and d'arcy were all that talented, but they were part of the shaky unit that created the original spirit of the pumpkins. that's what i miss. and for the record, i think the new band sounds like shit.

good point. darcy was so high on drugs that in 1999 her bass on live shows was turned down so low that you couldn't hear it even if you would lean an ear to the speakers. iha's limited skills forced billy to play most guitar parts live so his vocal performance suffered. yeah dude ... come back to reality. you are on a nostalgia trip like alot of d-bags here. stop glorifying the past

For the record, I think Jeff is highly skilled in his role as a characterless robot wheeled out to play James's parts, and Nicole is the most interesting bassist they've had since the reunion. She definitely seems to have confused Billy by playing things that he hasn't told her to, and has a much more bearable tone than Melissa. They're fine. Without Mike, you could forget/ignore who's on stage and just enjoy hearing the songs played well, but his drumming takes you out of that; it stands out like a sore thumb (and sounds like he has two). This isn't even dribbling Jimmy-fandom; I thought Matt Walker was great behind the kit. Mike just has no power, and sounds a complete mess. I'm not in a position to analyse it musically; I just know that I'd rather mash monkey faeces into my ear canals than subject myself to his flabby flailing in a live environment again.

Forget the old band. that can be debated into the ground. the new band sucks. pure and simple. if he wanted to top his old band, he should have hired musicians that could handle these songs at pumpkins level. that means finding a drummer as powerful as jimmy, and a bassist and second guitarist who could handle the ground work billy laid down on the early recordings. instead we get 'i'll just play random notes' nicole, and mister 'i can play just as fast a billy!' jeff. woo fucking hoo.
