they're different musicians with different styles. they aren't ever going to sound like 3 other people did in 1991.

I think you are forgetting about Mark Tulin.

He was clearly referring to the first rehearsals.

The quality of that video is too poor to judge the performance of that song. The tease they did on the American tour was pretty cool though.

MyOneAndOnly 12-01-2011 11:27 AM

The tease did sound good live. I don't understand why they weren't playing the whole song on the US tour. would have been better than listening to them just jam like that.

lala 12-01-2011 12:05 PM

listen to shows from 99 ... if you can hear darcy's bass you are a super human.

When they started playing this at Brixton (after an entirely-underwhelming Ruby), I found myself shaking my (lowered) head in dismay. It was embarrassing, and painful to hear. I was trying to keep an open mind about Mike, but his drumming ruined the old songs. I was praying that they didn't attempt Tonight, Tonight; when I heard they'd played it on the second night I actually felt relieved to have escaped. :erm:

 yeah it is not possible to hear darcy's bass in 1999, she was barely standing and you could only hear iha when he would fuck up ... which was on almost every song. yeah that is talent

was D'arcy even conscious in 99?

at least Jimmy could play when he was fucked up.

I appreciate the vibe that the old band had. Especially pre MCIS. But as a group that vibe was mostly gone by the time D'arcy left.

I don't go to SP shows today expecting them to look, act or sound like the original 4. I don't want them to. I go today to see what they can do today. When it comes to the new music there's a sound comeing through that's interesting and new. And they do justice to the old songs. I'm happy with that.

you obviously don't know the difference from a tease and a full song. if you are dissaponted by a tease than you are even a bigger d-bag than i thought

Where did I say they'd played the full song?

you are complaining about a tease. :noway:

"mama, mama the i am one tease sucked! "

whywontyoulistn 12-01-2011 01:35 PM

I wasn't at all disappointed by the tease. In fact, I was overjoyed that they quit murdering a great song at just over a minute in.

yeah people who can actually play are "murdering" a great song. maybe you should watch the cris isaak special where jimmy says AGAIN that darcy and james couldn't play, where jimmy says AGAIN that darcy and james only looked good in videos, maybe you should read the RS interview from 1993 where james and darcy admit they didn't have the skills to play on SD, maybe you should listen to 100+ interviews of billy talking about their skills, maybe you should read the butch vig interview where he states that james and darcy were not skilled enough to play on a record, etc.

yeah pure talent, pure talent.

Or maybe I could listen to a few bootlegs and make my own mind up instead of having to be spoon-fed opinions which I then regurgitate as my own?
