you know what's awesome? Biophilia

best thing she's done since Vespertine, hands down.

Kahlo 09-28-2011 09:44 AM

NEED TO HEAR THIS

damn only having internet at work.

Caine Walker 09-28-2011 01:50 PM

dude, yes you do.

if i had to single out one track that really blew me away, it's Mutual Core. but the others are all great on their own.

also, Crystalline is different than the single-version.

Dogfighter28 09-28-2011 04:07 PM

But what did you think of Volta?

Caine Walker 09-29-2011 09:59 AM

volta was a huge disappointment for me. i really really wanted to like it, but there was too much nonsense going on and it felt like the whole album wasn't really staying together very well. a few songs were okay, but for the most part nothing stood out.

rottenugly 09-29-2011 11:07 AM

debut and post > all imo.

Dogfighter28 09-29-2011 11:52 AM

Wanderlust was a top notch song though right? If it's better than Volta I'll have to check it out

??? 09-29-2011 01:59 PM

i just started getting into biophilia last night. i'd been meaning to check it out for ages but forgot about it. i think its a fantastic idea - an interactive concept album for the 21st century naturalist - but not much of the music has grabbed me so far. i quite like Moon. the visual aspect is great but i feel that bjork's music has become abstract and forgettable in the last few years.

Caine Walker 09-29-2011 07:19 PM

wow, really? i wasn't sure about thunderbolt at first, but it's growing on me now.

as for the rest, crystalline still kills. virus->sacrifice->mutual core is an amazing sequence of songs. i really REALLY like that she got back to utilizing the beats a bit more aggressive manner (that's how i hear it anyway).

this is definitely one of my favorites of the year.

i dunno, wanderlust just never really struck a chord with me the way i wanted.

There's not more talk about this album? I think it's fantastic!

Kahlo 10-13-2011 02:37 AM

Dogfighter28 10-18-2011 12:10 AM

Dogfighter28 10-18-2011 12:10 AM

i'd never seen this video before and now i'm skurred

TuralyonW3 10-18-2011 01:21 AM

so isn't there like some big interactive experience with this album or whatever...how does that work?

Caine Walker 10-18-2011 10:51 AM

there are itunes apps that go with every song, which are meant to be used with a touchscreen. it's a really interesting idea, and i'd like to play with them, but i don't have an iphone or an ipod touch or an ipad. supposedly there were going to be ones for android, but i'm yet to see or hear about them.

post. absolutely start with post.

PkPhuoko 10-18-2011 08:35 PM

so I worked with Eddie of 16 Bit under his drum and bass duo/alias Broken Note (they released under Mindsaw and did a few tunes that were slated for Dubsaw but were never released)

Talked with him a bit on AIM and apparently along with 16-Bit, Current Value and a few other of the electronic artists from the dubstep/drum and bass community made a half dozen songs each that were all licensed for the album along with the ones released on the album. The thought is there may be more apps with exclusive unreleased tunes in the future or patches for the existing apps.

Pretty cool if you ask me. I'd buy an app for exclusive Bjork tunes produced by stellar artists like 16bit and CV.

man I tried to get into this album...there are amazing moments of beauty and fascinating production...but it just doesn't come together for me as a continuous listening experience

i think that's because of how it was produced. Though not given collaboration credit i dont think, a lot of the tracks were produced by random producers not from the normal bjork camp (ie current value did sacrifice, 16 bit did crystalline, mark bell did a few tracks, bjork did some herself) where as in the past she often times picked a production team to sit down and do an entire album.

To me, i love sacrifice, but it sounds way out of place
