What do people on here think of the band Garbage?

Yeah.

Sonic Johnny 04-11-2011 11:29 AM

nah

Trotskilicious 04-11-2011 11:30 AM

HOLY SHIT LISTEN TO SOMETHING ELSE FOR FUCKS SAKE

Trotskilicious 04-11-2011 11:31 AM

smashingjj 04-11-2011 01:16 PM

they are very true to their name

Trotskilicious 04-11-2011 01:29 PM

did the OP just discover them? I really hate to think people going back to the 90s without any context and reviving bands like Garbage and Everclear.

Eulogy 04-11-2011 01:34 PM

self-titled is still real good. version 2.0 sounds really dated but still has its moments. everything after that is just bad (with a few exceptions like Parade, Nobody Loves You, Tell Me Where it Hurts).

not bad for what was probably supposed to be a one-album experiment or whatever

samuel redman 04-11-2011 02:09 PM

pretty good

it's worse. OP is probably stuck with the taste he had when he was 13.

other bands he likes will be radiohead, nin, a perfect circle and primus

Trotskilicious 04-11-2011 02:39 PM

you know there's a lot of underground/indie shit from the mid 90s that's worth listening to more than fucking garbage

VOMIT FOREVER

Trotskilicious 04-11-2011 02:48 PM

we should make this an 90s indie/underground thread

There's a decent start.

cocksure 04-11-2011 02:59 PM

thread would just be full of hum, slint, modest mouse and all the usual suspects

Trotskilicious 04-11-2011 03:06 PM

all better than garbage though

Mooney 04-11-2011 03:40 PM

i had to listen to garbage's 'as heaven is wide' probably eighteen hundred times thanks to the very limited gran turismo 1 soundtrack. :dammit:

but as far as shirley manson is concerned: would do.

Catherine Wheel 04-11-2011 03:53 PM

I've never heard self titled other than the singles but Version 2.0 is pretty good.

redbreegull 04-11-2011 03:53 PM

I have the first album. I can't remember what it sounds like that well actually, it's been a lot of years since I listened to it. I think I only thought it was mediocre back when I was 15, so it's probably not very good.

besides why is there so much elitism with music fucks anyway, nobody actually wants to say the obvious because then they won't be "cool" or something and we still haven't fixed the central problem that people still listen to Garbage

cocksure 04-12-2011 12:34 AM

oh i like all those bands, it just gets tiresome when the internet tells you for the 100th time that lonesome crowded west is a good album. i'd prefer to be exposed to something new, or at least show cool different things to others

slunken 04-12-2011 12:37 AM

i youtubed "carry the zero" the other day. man it's been so long - totally took me back.

this, word for word

Shallowed 04-12-2011 01:55 AM

Apparently they ripped off this band:

killtrocity 04-12-2011 02:56 AM

that is fucking awesome, getting it now

Shallowed 04-12-2011 03:44 AM

Lillies Dying from that album is pretty intense.

pale_princess 04-12-2011 04:55 PM

i haven't really thought about garbage since the early aughts, tbh

Exactly.

Trotskilicious 04-12-2011 07:15 PM

i like elastica better

it was my first introduction to wire

ButterflyBullet 05-09-2011 05:25 AM

I like, one of my favs after Smashing Pumpkins, NIN and Nirvana.

??? 07-15-2011 06:09 PM

Garbage are my joint favourite band with SP. Absolutely unbeatable songwriting. I even wrote a message to Shirley on facebook recently and she replied :smoke:

Dogfighter28 07-15-2011 06:55 PM

I think you should listen to this band instead.

Trotskilicious 07-15-2011 07:23 PM

TuralyonW3 07-15-2011 07:52 PM

I listened to my 2.0 cassette a shitload in 7th grade while playing San Francisco Rush on N64

aztec litany service 07-15-2011 09:21 PM

1st 2 albums good

one of my fav 90s songs yo

remember this one?

interesting interpolation/ripoff/whatever of beatles' 'no reply'

blahblah, they were cool for a while yeah

barden 07-16-2011 08:38 AM

in the context of music, garbage were an irrelevant band.

yoshinobu's revenge 07-30-2011 08:52 PM

lovvvvvvvvvvvvved the first two albums. third one was highly mixed, fourth was okayface.

overall tho, love shirley, one of my fav rock "stars". so i'll always give em a chance. butch is a good guy too.

Catherine Wheel 07-31-2011 05:50 AM

I especially like their early material that sounds like trip hop (Milk, Queer, The Trick Is to Keep Breathing, You Look So Fine)
