Anyone real familiar with Kinkos or Staples pricing?
 

I've got a 600+ page document to print out. Just black and white text and most of it's only covering an 1/8 of the page (it's poetry). How much am I looking to spend, will they cut me a deal, or should I get a college kid to print it on the sly for $20?

I'd pay $50 to get this shot out at a place but no more.

if you go to the fedex office (f/k/a kinkos) website, you can upload the document(s) and see how much it will cost. and then order it if it's cheap enough and pick it up when it's ready.

i used to go to kinkos on a regular basis at my old job but that was years ago. i remember printing plenty of 500+ pg documents that didn't cost the company too much. especially when black and white

kinkos fedex estimated pricing $54.40 i guess that's not too bad.

that seems a little high. are you sure they didn't default to some kind of fancy paper or something?

then again i have no idea how much this stuff is supposed to cost.

the default pricing was $377.60 so i went into the settings and changed it to the cheapest paper/b&w etc and couldn't get it any lower than $54.40.

You can print this much cheaper at a local print shop. Go and ask for a quote to print on a laser printer on 20 lb. paper. Should cost about 4-5 cents/page.

man where are there local print shops anymore

i have like 4 fedex offices within a quarter mile though

i printed a southwest boarding pass at this coffee shop and paid $2. one the one hand $2 for a single piece of black and white paper is absurd, on the other hand i was in a big rush and didn't care

No they sent. Companies don't go to these two places for projects, straight-run copies, brochures, ect.

the tiny mom and pop copy shops are out of business. the indie printers that are around usually have a minimum press run of $100 and their turnaround time isn't instantaneous. they're focusing more on banners and other large-scale, flatbed or roller printing. ie - things that kinkos/etc can't do. also, i'm printing a single document, not making multiple copies of one thing.

i've worked in the printing industry and outsourced a lot of jobs. i know what's in my area.

4 cents a copy would be dope though. haven't been able to find anything less than 6-7.
