lambert 09-29-2010 01:02 AM

Sweet. I was gonna say that the Pinkerton deluxe was a tad disappointing after the fairly lengthy wait for it. They should just ******* the Rivers disc with it and have a 3 disc set ala The Cure's Disintegration rerelease earlier this year.

soniclovenoize 09-29-2010 08:33 AM

Also, I think there's a Weezer anthology of unreleased recordings spanning their whole career coming up (unless it was scrapped again) that should have even more Pinkerton stuff, as well as the totally unheard Post-Pinkerton songs from 1998...

Rider 09-29-2010 09:12 AM

So basically at this point Weezer is reduced to just selling us countless demos and special editions. Put all the Blackhole stuff on the Pinkerton special edition and get rid of the lame live tracks. I'm sure in a few years there will be a super deluxe Pinkerton that costs $200 and they will try to get us to buy this stuff all over again.

soniclovenoize 09-29-2010 09:25 AM

Yes but unreleased Pinkerton > anything they could possibly do now.

Astur 09-29-2010 09:28 AM

if only b0llstrer did the same

soniclovenoize 09-29-2010 09:32 AM

On top of that, judging by the songs that they totally scrapped for Green Album (the "Summer Songs") and the songs they totally scrapped for Make Believe (the "Album 5 Demos"), all their recent unreleased songs are probably > then any album they put out this last decade.

I have no issue with that. I have an issue with it being spread across 30 different CDs to try to make more money.

soniclovenoize 09-29-2010 12:17 PM

Dl that shit.

soniclovenoize 10-15-2010 05:33 PM

107.7 The End » New Music: Weezer from “Death to False Metal” & “Pinkerton” Re-Issue Here! (stream)

Streaming 2 songs from Death to False Weezer and 2 from the Pinkerton Delux.

Once again this shit reminds me they should have just broken up in 1998.

New Art Rioter 10-19-2010 02:43 PM

God, we Pumpkins fans think we have it bad sometimes. Try playing some of this new stuff and Tragic Girl back to back.

Trotskilicious 10-19-2010 02:56 PM

it's every bit as terrible

soniclovenoize 10-19-2010 04:32 PM

Oooops. There's Getting Up And Leaving. It's funny how this Pinkerton outtake that was never released totally shits all over everything they've done this last decade.

Luke de Spa 10-21-2010 08:31 AM

gave me the coat of your back suzanne

^ best weezer song

Trotskilicious 10-21-2010 09:42 AM

Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river
You can hear the boats go by
You can spend the night beside her
And you know that she's half crazy
But that's why you want to be there
And she feeds you tea and oranges
That come all the way from China
And just when you mean to tell her
That you have no love to give her
Then she gets you on her wavelength
And she lets the river answer
That you've always been her lover
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that she will trust you
For you've touched her perfect body with your mind.

And Jesus was a sailor
When he walked upon the water
And he spent a long time watching
From his lonely wooden tower
And when he knew for certain
Only drowning men could see him
He said "All men will be sailors then
Until the sea shall free t****
But he himself was broken
Long before the sky would open
Forsaken, almost human
He sank beneath your wisdom like a stone
And you want to travel with him
And you want to travel blind
And you think maybe you'll trust him
For he's touched your perfect body with his mind.

Now Suzanne takes your hand
And she leads you to the river
She is wearing rags and feathers
From Salvation Army counters
And the sun pours down like honey
On our lady of the harbour
And she shows you where to look
Among the garbage and the flowers
There are heroes in the seaweed
There are children in the morning
They are leaning out for love
And they will lean that way forever
While Suzanne holds the mirror
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that you can trust her
For she's touched your perfect body with her mind.

cocksure 10-21-2010 11:43 AM

^do you think he sings it with that "pulsating" volume in his voice to underline the maritime motif?

After a few listens I gotta say this is a fantastic tune. 'Tragic Girl' had promise, but it dragged towards the end and came across unfinished. This, on the other hand, is where its at. A great reminder of how good of a songwriter Rivers was in his heyday.

porkelina 10-22-2010 02:32 PM

I actually luv it for some reason.

actually what i get from this is it wasn't a loss of chops or an increase in hamminess that really fucked weezer (although they helped, sure), but crisp production. rawness suits the band way better than their latter-day studio sterility.

one other thing: this song would be much shorter if it were written recently. cuomo doesn't do the builds any more. a shame generally, but really, who cares. pinkerton should be enough of this kind of music for anyone

soniclovenoize 10-28-2010 05:03 PM

Yeah, that's true. I literally thought the same thing today after hearing this leak. The production ethics now make them terrible, along with lazy, formuliac, hit-driven, least-common-denominater songwriting.

I was kinda let down by this. I guess I was expectng more, but these "new" songs are really unfinished sounding, like the band didn't really work on them enough and didn't invest the time into them. But yeah, I guess that's what it is! Unfinished outtakes from Pinkerton!

But the Longtime Sunshine is very awesome. What's the third and forth song they wove into the end? Starts off with Longtime Sunshine, then Why Bother to the left; then what is it to the right, and then to the left again?; then I hear Blast Off! which was surprisingly absent from this, even though the band re-recorded it for the Pinkerton sessions...

EDIT:
Oh my shit typos everywhere

That and the fact that they write horrible songs now, wait no it's just the horrible songwriting. Never mind.

soniclovenoize 12-21-2011 12:04 PM

Hey fuckheads!

Alone 3 leaked, now we have nearly all of Songs From The Black Hole. So if you're interested, here is my reconstruction of it...
