Thank you, sir.
|
BEVERLY HILLS!
THAT'S WHERE I WANNA BE! |
i'm having a hard time thinking of a band that has such an enormous gulf in quality from the first two albums to everything after that. embarrassing, really.
also i watched the first minute of that video and was so overcome by the douchiness of rivers that i could not continue. |
people who can't enjoy new weezer even a little tend to have no sense of humor
do you guys all hate girl talk and the residents too |

i mean as far as pop bullshit rivers doing it is almost funnier than most people because everyone knows damn well that he could put out amazing material if he wanted. weezer is the most successful troll of all time |

i don't see why it's so wrong to enjoy it on a completely superficial level |

no reason they shouldn't though
|
it's weird how you take this position in this thread
|
i greatly enjoy disposable bullshit when it's well done
|
it's not well done. but i get your point. have fun liking current weezer.
|
c'mon, if you're wondering if i want you to is the definition of a solid pop single
|
I skipped the last album, but I plan on giving this one a go. He still churns out a decent tune every now and then. This one is a particular favourite of mine from the latter years:
Here's another: Its not that hard to remember that's still the same guy who wrote Pinkerton. |
Angel and the One is indeed a great song - one of the things that allows me to deal with the red album. I just really don't enjoy any of the songs that are song by anybody but Rivers, which pulls that album down to my least favorite of their first 5.
Fully skipped Raditude - and the cover of the new one makes me nervous as all hell. |
There are a few decent songs here or there, but overall, weezer's latest efforts are awful.

In case you fuckers missed it:
1) Blue Album/Pinkerton Tour... "We have this really exciting idea to do a tour where we spend two nights in each city, and the first night, we play the entire Blue Album, and the second night, we play the entirety of Pinkerton. We're just running it by promoters right now to see if there's sufficient interest in the markets to do something" 2) From Karl Koch: "...Death To False Metal... A Collection Of Unheard Songs From The Weezer Vault (formerly known as 'Odds And Ends') / Pinkerton Deluxe Edition update... * Both releases are due out on November 2 * Death To False Metal will have several different exclusive bonus tracks (beyond the main album) available thru different digital and possibly international outlets. You will want to gather them all, as they all are pretty darn cool. * including the bonus tracks, Death To False Metal's time span of material runs from 1993 to 2008, and includes tracks from the "weezer mystery year" 1998. * Pinkerton Deluxe will be comprised of 2 discs + a thick photo and text stuffed booklet in a deluxe dual gatefold digipak, and maybe a surprise or two. * The Super Deluxe edition of Pinkerton has been called off - instead Rivers' Pinkerton Book and Alone 3 will be released as stand alone items. Release dates on those havent been set yet, but Im for now assuming they will be around the same time as P: DE. * a special 7" is being planned that may have a track each from Death To False Metal and Pinkerton Deluxe. * As far as Pinkerton Deluxe goes, I would love to say "vinyl lovers rejoice!" but at this moment I can only say "vinyl lovers... keep your fingers crossed and pray"." Congradumalations, Weezer. You might actually get some $$$ out of me. :( |
If they play Blue one night and Pinkerton next, those might be the shortest headlining concerts ever given how short those albums are.
|
So the album is out there now....and on first impression I think it's actually kinda good. (WTF?) It's still nowhere near Blue or Pinkerton, but it's probably the most consistent album they've put out since Green, IMO.

Hurley is the first Weezer album ive actualyl listened to all the way through (ive never listened to any of the popular ones)
i dont get it at all. although distortion is always nice |
Hey, check it out... The Triple-J "Producer" series spotlight on Dave Fridmann, producer of The Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, MGMT, Elf Power, etc... And of course, Pinkerton!
http://mpegmedia.abc.net.au/triplej/...e-fridmann.mp3 Very interesting thing on the making of Pinkerton... The band was recording with a freind of Fridmann's, and Weezer would come into the studio over and over again with a Flaming Lips record and tell him "We want to sound like this!" and eventually he was like "Well, go record with their producer then!" So they did! Apparently, they'd record each song nine times, every version completely different, then direct Fridmann to edit the bits and pieces of each take together to make one new Frankenstein edit; if they didn't like it, they'd record ANOTHER nine different takes and repeat the whole proccess! |
