New Deftones Song - "Rocket Skates"

Love it.

Caine Walker 02-23-2010 02:14 PM

fucking awful.

hnibos 02-23-2010 02:18 PM

lol

null123 02-23-2010 02:20 PM

putting the lyrics right up front like that seems unwise

Caine Walker 02-23-2010 02:29 PM

it's like that dennis leary truck commercial.

Catherine Wheel 02-23-2010 07:06 PM

Sounds like they are going back to the Around The Fur days. I kind of like it.

PkPhuoko 02-23-2010 11:49 PM

yeah best I've heard from them since white pony.

info on the new song and album

Diamond Eyes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Deftones wanted to make an optimistic record, as opposed to the dark and angry album they just finished.[8] Diamond Eyes was recorded in two months with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver, Stone Sour).[9] Deftones avoided using Pro Tools on the album in favor of writing songs together as a band and practicing them "a million times 'til they were perfect" in order to achieve a more raw and "personable" sound.[8]

After dealing with the tragedy surrounding Chi Cheng's car accident, Deftones wanted to create an album with an overall positive and optimistic vibe. Describing the band's state while writing for the album, Chino Moreno stated, "Our inspiration and unity as a band is stronger than it has ever been before and we needed to channel that energy into our music."[13] The songs on the album do not feature songs about complaining, hurting, or how "life sucks" – a common lyrical theme Moreno has noticed since the early 90s.[8][14] Moreno describes the overall theme of the album as a "positive zest for life," and also having "a fantasy vibe" similar to White Pony.[8][14] The song lyrics for "Rocket Skates" contain "beautiful yet violent imagery," and was compared to the Deftones song "Knife Party" from White Pony.

Liked pretty much every song on Saturday Night Wrist better but then again that was a pimping album.

bardy 02-24-2010 01:25 AM

positive vibe? GUNS KNIVES RAZORS!!!!!!!

that being said, I like the song. The guitars a a bit too harsh for me but I still like it---I'm just not an angry teenager like I was when I was obsessed with Adrenaline/Around the Fur.

Also--GO SAC TOWN!!

TuralyonW3 02-24-2010 01:40 AM

man they hit a creative funk a long time ago

cocksure 02-24-2010 06:06 AM

yeah i would say shortly before they formed a band

cocksure 02-24-2010 06:11 AM

del

In hindsight, I would've prefered to hear it without reading the lyrics. That "GUNS RAZORS KNIVES - fuck with me" chorus is a bit cringeworthy. Chino's in his late 30s now, right?

That being said, I still really like his voice. That "You're red / soaking wet" bit sounds especially nice.

You Said 02-24-2010 06:59 AM

If you have guns you really don't need the razors and knives.

Catherine Wheel 02-24-2010 11:59 PM

My only real complaint is that they seem to have run out of ideas with this one. It's nothing new. I was hoping that like Incubus they would eventually break out of nu-metal / hard rock and really explore other directions for more than a couple of songs on each album.

White pony was their last great album.

Although I did like Saturday Night Wrists.

Yep, but the s/t had some nice songs as well, Lucky You, Bloody Cape... I find the last 2 albums slightly boring.

I hope a second Team Sleep record comes out sometime as well. That album was amazing.

Catherine Wheel 03-04-2010 06:40 PM

I agree. Team Sleep was good. I think in general Chino's voice is better suited to softer sounding dream-pop stuff like that. It would be nice to hear him once again branch out like that.

Skradgee 03-08-2010 03:19 PM

lol wut

guns for show
knives for a pro

Dogfighter28 03-09-2010 12:41 AM

i feel like people who like team sleep would like saturday night wrist the best if they actually listened to it

russian iha 03-15-2010 03:23 PM

SNW was the closest thing to MCIS sound any band could achieve. Sad that they went back to this kind of sludge.

I like the vocals though.

No. I loved the Team Sleep album. SNW was good but slightly half-assed and confused.

WHAT THE

Catherine Wheel 03-15-2010 07:52 PM

Saturday Night Wrist was kind of like their Hail to the Thief. And White Pony is their OK Computer.

Self-titled was more of a HTTT vibe (back to rock/lots of guitars/mostly meh filler songwriting).

SNW is a lot more like In Rainbows - intimate arcane record with lots of personal mood swells and mostly ambient sound.

Eulogy 03-16-2010 04:06 PM

White Pony may have been their creative peak, but they can still sure as hell rock the fuck out.

In the middle of the song right now and enjoying it.

Eulogy 03-16-2010 04:11 PM

Diamond Eyes is neat too.

Dogfighter28 03-16-2010 04:12 PM

This is going to make me even more curious what Eros sounds like.

Catherine Wheel 03-16-2010 08:41 PM

I just heard the song Diamond Eyes. It's good. Heavy as fuck.

Gossamer 03-17-2010 06:20 PM

This album is going to be awesome.

smashingjj 03-17-2010 06:29 PM

Nope.

they're really channeling some heavy metal with the ending riff

love it

Catherine Wheel 03-18-2010 04:53 PM

Chinos singing is actually better on Diamond Eyes than it is on Rocket Skates. I really like the chorus.

it's the band's sixth album and they're still trying new stuff!

exactlythesame 03-18-2010 05:25 PM

^
it's pretty out of place with the rest of the song, which sounds like a ballad: so yes, new stuff for them

Dogfighter28 03-18-2010 05:30 PM

smashingjj this snobbery will not pass
