im talking about U2

U2 and preteens don't really have such a relationship

Shapan 10-13-2009 09:25 PM

even then, their credibility has gone down quite a bit over the years

Because one person's shoegaze masterpiece is another person's frustrating exercise in ambiance.

Nah. I just stay away from bands that make albums like St. Anger. You, however, are clearly hardcore enough to appreciate such arcane artistic achievements (I hope you appreciate the alliterative effort at least).

see

what are you talking about.since when i have I (openly) appreciated Metallica? i don't exactly know what point you are trying to make.

now, to cover my bases before i start, i like MBV....

BUT FOR FUCKS SAKE NOT EVERYONE IS GOING TO. It is funny, and you might not realise this yet, but Metallica fans would probably ask "how can people NOT get into this?", too

they STILL sell millions of records and STILL are idolized by the masses. These two factors mean that U2 are (generally) highly regarded.

TheMilstead 10-13-2009 09:41 PM

R.E.M.
Pavement
The Stooges
Yo La Tengo
U2
Tool
White Stripes
Pink Floyd (except Wish You Were Here...that's a great album)
Wavves hurrr hurrr hurrr de durrrr

mxzombie 10-13-2009 10:12 PM

seconding the beatles. i have heard plenty of their songs and generally don't find much i don't like, but despite having a bunch of beatles albums available for listening i have never found the urge to put one on.

First, good point. I confused your post with cardiac's. You never said anything about Metallica.

Second, I asked the MBV question for clarification on why someone could not get into the band. I still fail to see any specific answers.

music. subjectivity. art. subjectivity.

sometimes, you know, it's not a case of having/finding a reason to dislike a band, moreso a case of "i just don't like the way they sound

eh, you could be a pop queen and have both of these. u2 have more longevity than that though so ill just leave these be. they havent been the critical darling the once were.

i get what you're saying. however we must establish the difference between being highly regarded critically, and being highly regarded generally. there is a huge difference between them.

There are arguments for objectivity in art.

how is that not valid

so there has to be a concrete fucking reason to not like a certain band.

OH MAN I DONT LIKE MBV BECAUSE THE LAYERING GRATES MY EARRRSSSS

And please stop shouting. Try using quotations and exclamation marks to signal a histrionic speaker.

or how about you stop telling me how to post?

your point is ridiculous. If you dont like the way a band sounds, then there does not have to be anymore to it.

Case closed. Over. Move on.

This. What is it exactly that places Aeroplane on top of every other "greatest albums of all time" list made by hipsters? Is it the lyrics? If its that earth-shatteringly brilliant, I'd like to know what I'm missing out on here.

I'm Hardcore 10-14-2009 08:52 AM
