wow district 9 was awful

people are so goddamn stupid

Gossamer 08-18-2009 01:39 AM

Plz go see this movie if you can get past these little plot points:

THE ALIENS ARE TOO STUPID TO FIGHT BACK WITH THEIR EXTREMELY HIGH POWERED GUNS THAT ONLY THEY HAVE THE ABILITY TO USE EVEN THOUGH THE HUMANS ARE FAR WEAKER AND HAVE FAR LESS POWERFUL WEAPONS.

THE ALIENS ARE ALSO TOO STUPID TO REVOLT AFTER 20 YEARS OF LIVING IN CAPTIVITY EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD THE ABILITY TO MAKE AN ENORMOUS HIGHLY ADVANCED SPACESHIP AND FLY IT THROUGH SPACE.

ONE PARTICULAR ALIEN IS ABLE TO MAKE ANYTHING OUT OF GARBAGE, INCLUDING ANOTHER SMALLER SPACESHIP.
SOMEHOW HE CREATES A TINY BIT OF FUEL AFTER 20 YEARS THAT IS JUST ENOUGH TO POWER UP THE SMALLER SPACESHIP SO HE CAN FLY BACK TO HIS HOME PLANET.

The premise that the world would leave aliens in refugee camp slums in the worst of 3rd world conditions to be managed by a mercenary group is more than just implausible. In this alternate reality that the movie takes place in, the response of the world's heads of state was "Oh, it's aliens, how inconveniencing. You keep them."

ATS 08-18-2009 01:43 AM

cool story bro

Ugly 08-18-2009 01:48 AM

Incorrect post. The aliens in D9 are idiot "worker class". They don't have the wherewithal to take over the planet or revolt and they seem to enjoy the slum life.

And he didn't make the smaller spaceship out of garbage, it was the command module that dropped.

There were a lot of things at the beginning there.

Gossamer 08-18-2009 01:59 AM

Yeah dude, I totally believe that the 1 million aliens were all "worker class" and that they were that dumb that they wouldn't fight any of the bossy humans even though they could destroy them in 2 seconds with either their tentacles or their huge ass guns that were so much more advanced than anything we had.

whatever.

bad movie.
just admit it, it's shoddy writing.

wHATcOLOR 08-18-2009 02:04 AM

ugly, did you like it? i've been wanting to go see it

TuralyonW3 08-18-2009 02:05 AM

ill thought-out second post. great movie.

Gossamer 08-18-2009 02:21 AM

no, a great movie would be There Will Be Blood.

this is shit.

Tchocky 08-18-2009 02:54 AM

If Gossamer hated it, it must be great.

Though he is right (for once) about There Will Be Blood.

Word. But I hated the movie. I loled through a lot of it. The surprise party scene was hilarious.

hnibos 08-18-2009 10:43 AM

I was considering seeing it yesterday, but we saw something else instead. The end. Cool story, will tell again.

okay then you explain why those are not valid points.

because they definitely are.

it's simply not logical that aliens that are stronger and have much more advanced weaponry and technology would be so dumb that they would let the humans boss them around and live in terrible conditions for 20 years.

Gossamer 08-18-2009 01:00 PM

If a species is advanced enough to travel around in space it does seem pretty likely they would kick our asses.

Or at least not be so goddamn stupid.

mxzombie 08-18-2009 01:08 PM

since when does a movie's worth depend on its plausibility?

Ugly already did. I wasn't blown away with the movie, but that's because I was expecting the whole thing to be like a documentary/social commentary type thing. After that guy turns into an alien and the whole movie switches focus onto to him, it lost something.

Gossamer 08-18-2009 01:26 PM

listen man, I'm all for exposition in film but this was just a tad ridiculous.

there were so many points in the plot that were illogical and took me right out of the movie.

the director wanted us to swallow a lot of bs.

Trotskilicious 08-18-2009 02:03 PM

i would like it if you swallowed bs instead of spewing it forth in an unstoppable torrent

killtrocity 08-18-2009 02:30 PM

one of the words in "science fiction" means "based on the imagination or the improbable"

The aliens are obviously a hive collective, with command aliens directing the worker drones. Without leaders to lead them around by the nose, the worker drones are basically retarded. This is not a new concept in science fiction, see the borg in star trek.

That spaceship was the dropship that was shown on the news reports falling from the mothership at the beginning.

Christopher Johnson was obviously not a simple worker drone. Probably one the leaders or low level commander. Not really a stretch here.

He also didn't "create" the fuel, it's taken 20 years to sift through alien technology junk, salvaging drops of fuel from here and there, purify it, until he collected enough to power up the dropship.

Are you aware that this entire movie is a heavy handed allegory to the south african apartheid regime's actions in the 70's? If you substitute out the aliens and put in blacks, take out all the sci-fi, then this actually happened.

The movie was good, not great. I think there are much better criticisms of this movie than yours.

killtrocity 08-18-2009 02:35 PM

thank you

Trotskilicious 08-18-2009 02:37 PM

man gossamer is fucking retarded

I know but honestly it just doesn't work at all.

I'm not retarded, this is a bad film that is getting way too much love.

Dogfighter28 08-18-2009 03:43 PM

Once again plausibility is not exactly what you should be looking for in a SCIENCE FICTION film

I understand that the aliens are a hive collective and that most of the ones that were on the ship were "worker drones" but I'm pretty sure out of the 1 million that were on the ship there were more smart ones like Christopher and you want me to believe that those smart ones wouldn't have taken charge or tried to start a revolt after living in such terrible conditions for 20 fucking years?
Another thing, if he collected just enough to power up the dropship, how is he all of a sudden also able to power up the mothership with that same amount of fuel WHICH btw was in the dropship the entire time.

This movie was not good and there were quite a few head scratching moves, like for example WHY on earth would Wikus knock Christopher out when a. Wikus has no idea how to fly the dropship, b. even if he flies it and gets to the mothership how is he going to reverse the prawn process when he has no idea what equipment is even on the ship.

:banging:

AND AGAIN, I find it VERY hard to believe that there would be such a difference between the prawns that those workers would be SO STUPID as to not even try and fight back against the humans who are obviously weaker and far less advanced technologically.

I mean, the humans couldn't even use their weapons!

again, it's not so much plausibility as it is poor writing with nonsensical actions from most of the characters.

Trotskilicious 08-18-2009 03:46 PM

god i hate you so much
