Offical "Star Trek" thread

Got my tickets for tonite. I would recomend reading the "Star Trek: Countdown" mini-series beforehand just for kicks (and it ties in this movie to the TNG crew, giving them a proper send-off that Nemesis failed to do). It is 100% not required for viewing, but it's a great way to get your geek-on for prep. I'm gonna re-read it tomorrow. Too late to get it on Amazon, so here's the torrent link:

http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/7...wn?tab=summary

Here's all the Star Trek I watched from March to May from all the series (lots of alternate timeline/parllel universe eps - just like this movie). Didn't get laid once.

Star Trek: Best Destiny
(a novel about teenage Kirk, said to be an inspiration for this movie)
TOS- The Menagerie (Parts 1 & 2)
TOS - Balance of Terror
TOS - The Squire of Gothos
TOS - Space Seed
TOS - City of the Edge of Forever
TOS - Metamorphosis
TOS - Amok Time
TOS - The Doomsday Machine
TOS - The Trouble With Tribbles
DS9 - Trials and Tribble-Ations
TOS - Journey to Babel
TOS - The Ultimate Computer
TOS - Spock's Brain
TOS - The Tholian Web
ENT - In A Mirror, Darkly (Parts 1 & 2)
TOS - Mirror, Mirror
TAS - Yesteryear
Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek 3: Search for Spock
Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home
Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier
Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country
VOY - Flashback
TNG - Encounter At Farpoint
TNG - Yesterday's Enterprise
TNG - Sarek
TNG - The Best of Both Worlds (Parts 1 & 2)
TNG - Unification (Parts 1 & 2)
TNG - Frame of Mind
TNG - Parallels
TNG - The Pegasus
ENT - These Are the Voyages...
TNG - All Good Things...
Star Trek: Generations
DS9 - Crossover
DS9 - The Visitor
DS9 - Little Green Men
Star Trek: First Contact
ENT - Regeneration
VOY - The Year of Hell (Parts 1 & 2)
VOY - Message in a Bottle
DS9 - In the Pale Moonlight
Star Trek: Insurrection
VOY - Timeless
VOY - Bride of Chaotica!
VOY - Someone to Watch Over Me
DS9 - Take Me Out to the Holosuite
DS9 - Field of Fire
Star Trek: Nemesis
Star Trek: Countdown (comic)

Family Guy - Not All Dogs Go to Heaven (TNG cast guest stars)
Futurama - Where No Fan Has Gone Before (TOS cast guest stars)

And I also just watched "Mission Impossible 3" (same crew did this movie, from the director, screenwriters, music, cinematographer. Fuck, probably the cateerer) and "Chopper" (first time I seen it, just watched to see Bana's performance to compare. Fucking awesome flick) in the past 24 hrs for prep for this flick.

Whoo! Live long and prosper, motherFUCKERS!!! This isn't your father's Star Trek, like the ads say. (Which is also saying, "If you've ever liked this series before, GO FUCK YOURSELF!") Chance of sucking is low, though. Check out that rottentomatoes score in the 90s.

wow...your pretty devoted then.

Mablak 05-07-2009 01:13 AM

The only star trek episode I remember watching is the Voyager one where Captain Janeway and that other officer evolve into lizards and then fuck each other and feel remorse about it after they turn back into humans.

Mablak 05-07-2009 01:25 AM

So does anything like that happen in the movie or should I just avoid it

ChristHimself! 05-07-2009 03:20 AM

no matter how good it turns out to be, it won't be a patch on chopper

LOOK AT ME MATE, IM FLOIYIN, IM FAHKIN FLOIYIN

Judging Star Trek by a Voyager ep is like judging Smashing Pumpkins by a random track off of TFE

jczeroman 05-07-2009 06:21 PM

Phenomenal film. Not being sarcastic - possibly the best film of the series.

TheMilstead 05-07-2009 06:52 PM

Seeing it at 10pm Central tonight with a friend. It's looking really good on Rotten Tomatoes so far. I grew up kind of a Trekkie, so I can't wait! Hopefully this will be the first great movie since First Contact.

murgle 05-07-2009 10:11 PM

I was contemplating about going tonight with a friend, but I'm freaking tired and she says she's stinky, so we're going tomorrow afternoon instead.

redbull 05-07-2009 10:15 PM

What the fuck does that mean. I think I'd be pissed off if someone used stinkiness as an excuse.

she drove in from Odessa (like a 6 hour drive). It was 104 degrees in Odessa, and it was in the 90s here today. Her A/C went out half way through the drive.

She's stinky.

TheMilstead 05-08-2009 03:17 AM

So, the movie was friggin' fantastic.

Discuss.

cardiac 05-08-2009 05:06 AM

Gonna see it tonight. I know absolutely nothing about star trek apart from seeing a couple of Shatner era episodes last week. Can one enjoy the flick without any knowledge of the universe/characters?

topleybird 05-08-2009 03:06 PM

I feel so weird about this movie. Essentially I loved everything except the script. Which, you know, you'd think would be a dealbreaker. But somehow it isn't. The cast is charismatic as hell, the effects are good, music good, surprisingly funny, basic concept perfectly okay.

But if you're going to address the question of how the Enterprise crew came together, maybe the answer should be more interesting than, "Well, they all just kind of fell into it through a series of incredibly unbelievable coincidences and promotions."

Trotskilicious 05-08-2009 03:45 PM

that's what it looked like. i was afraid of that.

how is simon pegg as the bad guy

are you seriously asking this about a total reboot of a franchise? really? seriously?

the short answer is no, the only possible way to enjoy this total reboot and re imagining of a 40 year old sci-fi television show is to watch all the original episodes twice and take extensive notes.

wHATcOLOR 05-08-2009 03:59 PM

my office is a little light on the NERDS today, i think they're all viewing this movie

now that would've been awesome.

Trotskilicious 05-08-2009 04:29 PM

i thought he was

Trotskilicious 05-08-2009 04:29 PM

or is he scotty

judgeman 05-08-2009 05:16 PM

I am seeing this today, cant wait!

topleybird 05-08-2009 05:44 PM

He's Scotty, but yeah, that might have added some pep to what is otherwise a really awful villain. Eric Bana has some fun with the role but he has pretty much nothing to do the whole movie. And, thanks to a scene getting cut, it appears he goes joyriding around the galaxy for about twenty-five years before enacting his plan.

Kind of weird, huh? Normally this kind of thing ruins a movie - but the performances, visuals, sound, etc... were just too overpowering.

Nimrod's Son 05-08-2009 07:01 PM

SPOILER ALERT:
spock is actually only HALF vulcanian. he is also half human!

barden 05-08-2009 07:32 PM

thanks guys this thread will help in identifying and avoiding you fgs.

Also: I was watching some promo shit for this movie today and that JJ fucker was all, 'We've tried to make a movie for movie goers, not for trek fans. But trek fans will love it as well. If you've never seen anything to do with star trek, come watch this movie, you will enjoy it'

so stfu mr rhino.

Also: I've found leaving the 'a' out of fag makes me feel less guilty about using it as an insult.
sorry to the male lovers of cock out there.
most of you are prob in this thread, it's okay.

Jump down to the clip "Answer Me" and read the question and answer under it.

topleybird 05-09-2009 12:43 AM

Also, fuck a "Generations." Think of how amazing this could have been if Shatner AND Nimoy had been on that ship together. Who cares why.

duovamp 05-09-2009 12:49 AM

Just got back from seeing it. It was pretty cool I guess. I'm not really a big Star Trek fan... but... I had a good time.

topleybird 05-09-2009 01:48 AM

Two of the many things that make less sense the more I think about them:

1. If it only takes one gumball of "red matter" to implode a whole planet, why is Spock carting around a metric fuckload of it in his little blibbership?

2. How am I supposed to take Starfleet as an organization seriously when, after an emergency crew of field-promoted cadets and fuckups returns home with the flagship of the entire fleet, Starfleet Command decides to let them keep it?

Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As 'Fun, Watchable'

ella 05-09-2009 09:38 PM

I saw the 11:20am showing this morning, my bf and I were going to do a double and see Wolverine right afterwords, but he was too tired and I was too cold so we just slept instead.

Anyways, I thought it was pretty fucking cool.... very different than the serie's storyline, etc...at least from what I know about the Star Trek series.

Floppy Nono 05-09-2009 09:39 PM

it's supposed to be, it takes place in an alternate reality that was created by nero killing kirks dad.

Floppy Nono 05-09-2009 09:40 PM

i keep wanting to call that piece of shit nemo. whatever, even a terrible villain didn't ruin the movie for me

ella 05-09-2009 09:43 PM

Yeah and why was it that every one of Nero's wingmen looked exactly like him!? It annoyed the shit out of me...they all looked so similar.

Floppy Nono 05-09-2009 09:45 PM

yeah seriously! i was just talking to my friend who i saw it with and we agreed on that. oh well, the ship looked pretty cool and i thought the extreme CGI was the least offensive use of it i've seen in an action movie in a long time.

ella 05-09-2009 09:47 PM

So what showing did you see?

BRB if it takes me a few to post, I have to throw on some clothes...I'll be wearing a Dino Jr tshirt, holy shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, maybe Barden will piss on that as well.
