Just got back from seeing it. It was pretty cool I guess. I'm not really a big Star Trek fan... but... I had a good time.

topleybird 05-09-2009 01:48 AM

Two of the many things that make less sense the more I think about them:

1. If it only takes one gumball of "red matter" to implode a whole planet, why is Spock carting around a metric fuckload of it in his little blibbership?

2. How am I supposed to take Starfleet as an organization seriously when, after an emergency crew of field-promoted cadets and fuckups returns home with the flagship of the entire fleet, Starfleet Command decides to let them keep it?

Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As 'Fun, Watchable'

ella 05-09-2009 09:38 PM

I saw the 11:20am showing this morning, my bf and I were going to do a double and see Wolverine right afterwords, but he was too tired and I was too cold so we just slept instead.

Anyways, I thought it was pretty fucking cool.... very different than the serie's storyline, etc...at least from what I know about the Star Trek series.

Floppy Nono 05-09-2009 09:39 PM

it's supposed to be, it takes place in an alternate reality that was created by nero killing kirks dad.

Floppy Nono 05-09-2009 09:40 PM

i keep wanting to call that piece of shit nemo. whatever, even a terrible villain didn't ruin the movie for me

ella 05-09-2009 09:43 PM

Yeah and why was it that every one of Nero's wingmen looked exactly like him!? It annoyed the shit out of me...they all looked so similar.

Floppy Nono 05-09-2009 09:45 PM

yeah seriously! i was just talking to my friend who i saw it with and we agreed on that. oh well, the ship looked pretty cool and i thought the extreme CGI was the least offensive use of it i've seen in an action movie in a long time.

ella 05-09-2009 09:47 PM

So what showing did you see?

BRB if it takes me a few to post, I have to throw on some clothes...I'll be wearing a Dino Jr tshirt, holy shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, maybe Barden will piss on that as well.

barden 05-09-2009 09:48 PM

ella is a racist.

Floppy Nono 05-09-2009 09:48 PM

you should probably wear clothes when you post on netphoria

Floppy Nono 05-09-2009 09:49 PM

also, i saw the 12:30 showing in IMAX but it's like a half assed modified IMAX they built into our theater idk, it's smaller than a real IMAX screen

Floppy Nono 05-09-2009 09:49 PM

IMAX

ella 05-09-2009 09:52 PM

Man, fuck you and you IMAX types... I sat in a nasty fucking seat that made my ass sore for the rest of the day. =/

Not even to mention the gunk that got stuck to my shoes. =[ I'm having a bad day.

Joe, don't take any of this offensively. =P

Floppy Nono 05-09-2009 09:55 PM

the IMAX seat wasn't any better, let me tell you. between the sore ass and full bladder i didn't know how to sit for the last hour or so of the film.

barden 05-09-2009 09:58 PM

whats this sore ass story you're all complaining about.
i find the seats in cinemas to be quite nice.
I guess I dont have an american ass!!!!

Floppy Nono 05-09-2009 10:00 PM

not all cinema seats are created equally my dear sir

barden 05-09-2009 10:03 PM

WHATU GONNA DO WIT ALL THAT JUNK?? ALL THAT JUNK, IN YOUR TRUNK????

Floppy Nono 05-09-2009 10:04 PM

attract a chubby chasing sugar daddy and live the life of luxury

Floppy Nono 05-09-2009 10:05 PM

also IMMA GET GET GET YOU DRUNK, GET YOU DRUNK OFF MY HUMP. MY HUMPS, MY HUMPS, MY HUMPS. MY LOVELY LADY LUMPS

ella 05-09-2009 10:38 PM

It was fairly warm outside today also...but inside the goddamn cinema I WAS FREEZING MY ASS OFF! I had to freaking curl up in the fetal position and try to use my purse as a blanket!

Obv from where ever you're from Barden (Austria or some shit,) you live in the fucking lap of luxury, but not in America here....and I do believe Austrian ass to be much bigger than American ass...A Gallup poll suggested so.

Trotskilicious 05-09-2009 11:59 PM

austria...

gurr8 05-10-2009 10:57 PM

film was good, not sure why "re-booting" the franchise requires a totally different timeline...but it was enjoyable.

Nimrod's Son 05-11-2009 01:20 AM

Spoilers beyond...
I saw most of this film over 6 months ago - sans a few effects here and there. I was hoping my problems with it would have been addressed, but no... anyway:

you have to accept INCREDIBLE COINCIDENCE. Kirk gets jettisoned, for no reason mind you - on a planet where old Spock is hiding? Then, Montgomery Scott who designed the theorum that lets them beam to the Enterprise is there as well? Kirk and Bones are thrust together into a shuttle next to each other? The fucking Enterprise is built a few minutes from Kirk's house?

The coincidences don't begin or stop there, but I like to suspend my disbelief regarding space shit, not regular day shit

duovamp 05-11-2009 01:28 AM

In response to your spoiler, more spoilers:

Well this is a movie from this certain alternate universe. The other universes where he landed on a different planet, or got chased to a different spot, or Montgomery Scott being stationed near there, or Bones meeting up with Kirk, or Spock working with Kirk before he becomes captain, or Kirk not dying from AIDS at age 20 or not going off the cliff in the beginning were all too boring and gay. Think of how many coincidences there had to be in the first place for Kirk to even be born, no matter what universe. In this subjunctive future of which you speak, everything ever is an incredible coincidence, just like in our very own. And so the universe unfolds just as it should...

duovamp 05-11-2009 01:30 AM

At least this was just crap that happened by chance, unlike in The Transporter where bullshit happens nonstop that is way too lucky to even be real.

Nimrod's Son 05-11-2009 01:32 AM

yeah because star trek should hold up to the same standards as TE TRANSPORTER STARRING JASON STATHAM

duovamp 05-11-2009 01:36 AM

I just said it exceeded that level of shittiness, you clod.

duovamp 05-11-2009 01:39 AM

I mean everything ever happens by chance. Sometimes by an outside, unforeseeable chance. I mean Mr. Burns lost Roger Clemens, Wade Boggs, Ken Griffey, Jr., Steve Sax, Ozzie Smith, José Canseco, Don Mattingly, and Mike Scioscia all the night before the big softball game against the Shelbyville powerplant. You look at the amount of coincidences that had to come about for you to even exist here and interact with me and you might be awfully impressed.
