'Impeach Obama' groups pop up on Facebook

Barack Obama has not even been sworn in yet as the 44th president of the United States but groups are springing up online calling for his impeachment.

On Facebook, an "Impeach Barack Obama" group has attracted more than 700 members and a lively debate about the Democrat's election victory on Tuesday over Republican John McCain.

Another Facebook group of the same name has 160 members and urges others to join because "we might as well get a head start on the impeachment of Obama."

"There are a lot of Americans out there that do not fully understand the concept of Socialism or Communism which is why they've elected Obama as president," it says.

Yet another Facebook group, "Impeach Barack Hussein Obama," has 160 members.

It decries that Obama "has voiced support for various unconstitutional programs such as the assault weapons ban, universal healthcare, and various schemes for wealth distribution."

"What are we going to do about it? IMPEACH HIM!" it says.

Obama still has some way to go, however, to equal the number of "Impeach George Bush" groups on Facebook, which lists at least 95 such groups with varying membership.

Obama is to be sworn into office on January 20, 2009. He will be the first African-American president of the United States.

Yeah, those shirts always made me LOL. I think Bush should rot in a prison cell for the rest of his life, but until Inauguration Day he is, unfortunately, still the US president. Those shirts just make the people who wear them look impetuous and reactionary.

But "Impeach Obama" already? The guy hasn't done anything yet... I think those people have a grasp that is tenuous at best on what grounds for impeachment are.

Fixed that for you.

it should be pointed out that there was an 'impeach mccain' group on facebook before the election.

skipgo 11-07-2008 05:12 PM

yeah, really. don't they realize that obama is going to fill our gas tanks and pay our mortgages?

skipgo 11-07-2008 06:11 PM

right nimrod. my calling people who want to "impeach obama!" idiots equates to me thinking that obama is the second coming of christ. I don't think the guy will deliver on a lot of his promises, but i have some hope that he'll do what he can to make things better.

pale blue eyes 11-07-2008 06:14 PM

I just think it is stupid to join groups asking to impeach a guy who is not even president yet. I can understand some people not liking him but at least give him a chance to prove he sucks or not.

Even if he "sucks" it's no reason to impeach someone.

pale blue eyes 11-07-2008 06:32 PM

Well, obviously, but it's not like the people who already signed into that group would care either way.

unlachs 11-07-2008 06:34 PM

universal healthcare = unconstitutional

suncrashesdown 11-08-2008 01:29 AM

The most hilarious ones are the Evangelicals claiming Obama is the Anti-Christ

i never use facebook but i logged in wednesday just to see those.

"watching capitalism die"
"goodbye republic, hello socialism"
"so this is how liberty dies - with thunderous applause"

Gish08 11-08-2008 01:47 PM

Good luck with that, idiots.

Anyone who truly thinks Barack Obama will usher in an era of socialism is mentally challenged. Seriously.

skipgo 11-08-2008 01:56 PM

my parents are among the ones who think he's the antichrist. seriously. it makes me really fucking embarrassed for them. :noway:

ah. well nimrod's comment makes a lot more sense now.

i'm just glad there is finally a shift in the balance of power, and I'm hoping for the best. after the last several years, even a mediocre president would be good. Of course I'm hoping for a lot more than that... but i'm not deluded enough to think that this guy is going to solve all of our problems. that lady is a bit deluded, obviously.

I am facebook friends with this really annoying girl I went to high school with, and apparently she really likes Palin. Her facebook status after the election was, "I'm moving to Europe."

People who are afraid that America is becoming "socialist"... opponents of universal healthcare, higher taxes, increased Federal funding of education, and laws controlling the ownership of guns, these people saying "I'm moving to Europe" as their solution.... that is too funny.

Does she have any clue how most European countries operate?

I sincerely doubt she knows how this one operates.
