redbreegull 09-09-2010 09:36 PM

Nimrod would never pass up an opportunity to attack education, which is obviously NOT to be trusted because it is like full of people who know shit

redbreegull 09-09-2010 09:36 PM

You're only paying attention to the nonsense that the person who received 700k of "stimulus" money is saying.

Seriously, make a fucking statement: do you or don't you think that was a good way to spend tax dollars on fixing the economy?

Educational institutions are full of people who have never left educational institutions and don't understand the world at large. It's full of people afraid to go out and experience real life, kinda like Eulogy. Most professors have gone from living at home to living at college to working at a college.

redbreegull 09-10-2010 03:32 AM

an outrageous, sweeping, and unprovable statement based on some personal bias.

do you think another kind of system is conceivable? i mean, you seem to work on quasi enlightenment principles here. do you think those kinds of ideas could truly ever be put into practice?

700 000 / 787 000 000 000 = .000000889453621

that's actually what i'm mostly paying attention to. you fucking bitch.

and yes, i have no problem with $700,000 funding scientific research and creating some jobs.

you're just jealous of my youth and potential, aren't you nimrod. it's ok, that's understandable!

For the love of god, man. Do you think that's a wise investment of money or do you think it could have been better spent elsewhere?

Also you clearly do NOT understand the economics of government spending as that money was spent on deficit which means you'll also be paying the interest on it for years to come.

This was simply one example of waste. When you add up all the piddling 700k pork projects, they add up to a lot more than you'd think.

just shut up already and stop with the phony ginned-up outrage.

I think the general consensus among legit economists is the stimulus did more good than bad. now from there you can divide it into different points of contention like obama wasn't bold in making it big enough of this or that allocation of money won't stimulate anything (which are both legit criticisms) but it wasn't some pork laden slush fund

TuralyonW3 09-10-2010 10:25 PM

Man oh man, the Republicans can't take over and save the world soon enough!

He said seven hundred million, not billion, a figure you recognized earlier but now confused.

OH SHIT.

How exactly does giving 700,000 bucks to a guy who already has a job create more jobs? Even if the guy uses the money to hire research assistants and the like, surely the stimulus's goal wasn't to sweeten the part-time job market for students at universities, was it? Those aren't the people who are making up the double digit unemployment in this country.

I don't see the point in bending over backwards to defend this.

It's called trickle-down economics. Heard of it?

please tell me i'm not the only one who finds this comment coming from this person just too fucking funny.

Order 66 09-11-2010 11:46 AM

when has research and development EVER stimulated the economy??

cocksure 09-11-2010 12:07 PM

perhaps when einstein invented the atom bomb

Trotskilicious 09-12-2010 07:38 AM

i had a professor from libya that had to flee his country in a prop plane because his brother was hung by qaddafi in the city center and my prof pulled his brother's corpse down from the gallows.

i mean nimrod's right. none of these guys ever have any real life experience! they're just geeks!

cocksure 09-12-2010 09:47 AM

even if they were geeks who hadn't experienced anything like that i don't see what would be wrong with it

in fact those kinds of experiences can be a hinderance, especially in the social sciences

but nimrod plays poker and has been to comic con

redbreegull 09-12-2010 01:25 PM

The professor that I learned more about politics/economics from than probably anyone else had to flee Iran by himself during the revolution. His family was thrown in jail and their farm was seized. He was 19 years old. When he got to the U.S. he had no money and no home. He can also never return because he is an enemy of the state, and would most likely be arrested immediately upon landing there for speaking out against the current regime. So yeah, professors don't do anything. They just live in the classroom.

cocksure 09-12-2010 01:43 PM

i don't think the core of nimrod's fallacy lies in the possibility to prove that there are extraordinary examples of people in the educational system who have "experienced a lot of real life situations" (whatever that means). i think it's more of a vague anti-intellectualism that's based on a premise of "you don't understand the world through study, you understand it through work".

basically nimrod is suggesting that we should close all schools

hnibos 09-12-2010 01:48 PM

hes right, the only we can understand how the economy works is by working in a cubicle.

hnibos 09-12-2010 01:48 PM

like ron paul, cubicle worker for life.

hnibos 09-12-2010 05:49 PM

i bet Ron Paul has worked his whole life and not just done "public service" like "Barrack Hussein Obama"

oh wait he was studying to become a doctor, i guess you have to study to become a doctor to know about the economy. nimrods has a phd? i had no idea.

hnibos 09-12-2010 05:51 PM

but wait if being a doctor.... and nimrod hates college students.... man idk but hes probably right.
