Airlines and airports
What is your list? Is there any airport you have really liked, found it really well-designed? I liked Zurich a lot, where train station is fully integrated with the airport - it is just on a different level, otherwise the space feels completely as one.
From the best to the worst: Airlines: Austrian Airlines Continental Scandinavian Icelandair KLM Swiss Lufthansa Czech Airlines Air Canada US Airways Estonian Air Northwest Air France Alitalia Airports: Zurich Reykjavik Amsterdam Vienna Detroit Minneapolis Munich Copenhagen Philadelphia Toronto Tallinn Stockholm Frankfurt Prague Newark Buenos Aires Rome Milan Lisbon Missoula Ft. Lauderdale Rome CDG Beijing |
I am surely running out of things I would discuss on this board.
|
why didnt you just make a "places i been" thread
|
I haven't flown a lot but Delta and Continental are good enough and flying on Southwest can be very fear inducing.
I think I hate ALL airports. They are full of nothing but people who just get in your fucking way. Braindead assholes who seem to have nothing better to do than to stand somewhere that logic would say "this is where people walk, not stand and look like a brainless retard" and they just stand there and you want to fucking flip out and start some shit but you can't because it's a fucking airport and people will think you're a goddamn terrorist or something. |
i'm usually much too cranky at the airport to appreciate anything

i remember spending 24 hours in the Zurich airport. I was NOT impressed, Jan. they did have good restaurants though.

I spent there one night on a bench. |
American Airlines is the worst I've flown. I was flying home for Christmas, hadn't seen my parents in a year, and it snowed more than forecast that day. They gave us no updates for 3 hours and I only found out the flight was canceled when I got up to take a walk and overheard the pilots as they realized the flight was no longer in the system. Fuck that shit.
|
I was really surprised how bad can be domestic US flights. I thought USA will be the best, since air travel seemed to be so essential for running and getting around the country.

the only airports i've been to that i can remember anything about are ft. lauderdale, miami, and panama city.
ft. lauderdale is nice, but it's small, empty, and weird. they play sounds of the wildlife of florida over the speaker system. miami's pretty cool, it's big and i never really know what part i'm in. it's cool though, like a huge maze or something. panama city (tocumen airport) was recently expanded and improved, so now it's pretty nice. still small. all the shops are for perfume, electronics, or duty-free liquor and cigarettes, so it's also pretty boring. |
hey Tim, I cannot rep you again, but I wanted to say I am still waiting for some bad post from you. You seem to be one of the people that even if we were talking about a total shit, I bet there will be still something informative I would learn from you.

I love walking through O'Hare. I don't really remember what Heathrow looks like.. I just remember it being fucking huge.
Flying into Haan was REALLY interesting. My sister and I were embarrassed at how slow our mom was driving on the autobahn. I was completely baffled to see a smoking lounge in the STL airport, and the airport in Omaha sucks so bad.. |

recently in Detroit I spent about ten minutes watching the fountain there.

Is Detroit the one with the monorail thing. I don't feel like looking it up.

I havent been to that many airports but I enjoy the weird conspiracy theories about the Denver airport.
http://www.anomalies-unlimited.com/Denver_Airport.html all airports I've been to have been decently easy to get around and have okay restaurants... I only HATE a few because of because of delayed flights and bad customer service experiences. I hate O'Hare and Dallas for canceling fights on me all the time! Also I am angry at Las Vegas for being impossible to get a cab at in under half an hour... I actually like Atlanta even though everyone else in the world seems to hate it... and Phoenix is almost impossible to get around if you have a short layover and need to run to catch a flight. I like smaller airports! The airport in sacramento has a bar with killer bloody mary's and I've gotten pretty hammered at the fresno/yosemite airport waiting for my plane |

US airways is fucking horrible.. that's what i was on when i made the thread from the plane about cockroaches being on it. Heathrow airport sucks.. a girl was in front of us in line at customs and she had her purse and a carry.. they said only 1.. they weren't letting woman bring their purses if it couldnt fit into their carry ons.. they told her to choose one.. wouldnt even let her mail it home or anything |
newark and seattle airports have always been easy for me. the lines at newark always move faster for some reason but seattle is tiny and easy to get around.
rome airport SUCKS. the international terminal was nice but the baggage claim area was scary. water was leaking from the ceiling and it took our luggage an hour to arrive. |

good thread for people to pretend to be worldly.
|
yeah, also good for people to pretend they aren't jealous and don't only travel around the Southwest
|
i slept all night in the KCI airport once. prettyfuckingbueno.

Airports:
Amsterdam Cork Eindhoven Rome (Ciampino) Airlines: Ryanair Amsterdam Schiphol is totally overwhelming. If you then arrive at Cork (ireland), it's quite the shock. Cork has a very new terminal, people are friendly. Not much can go wrong there, considering there's only one airstrip, one luggage thing etc. Ciampino is terrible. Old junk. Eindhoven is something like Cork |
