I really like Mason Jennings' "Ballad For My One True Love". I don't really like any of the other stuff I have heard of his but I think it's a sweet song and like his voice in it.

??? 06-25-2008 07:19 PM

didn't i once suggest that you get a live band and take the mic for "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" with lots of roses scattered on the floor?

pale blue eyes 06-25-2008 07:24 PM

If you did I hope you were joking.

??? 06-25-2008 07:35 PM

well its either that or Sex Farm

pale blue eyes 06-25-2008 07:48 PM

Pretty much any Spinal Tap song classes up an event like this. Big Bottom would work well, too.

Mablak 06-25-2008 07:56 PM

Personally I would choose By Starlight for sure.

I think a lot of flaming lips songs are suitable, but yeah Do You Realize is a bit cheesy and overplayed. Vein of Stars might actually be pretty cool.

??? 06-25-2008 08:56 PM

or Simply Red's Stars

is it ok to like that song

i mean, really like it

last time i posted on here you were debating to play on a world tour with an artisit you didn't rate that highly...what did you decide to do?

??? 06-25-2008 09:30 PM

well "artist" is a bit of a stretch, more like sellout wannabe hack with some bigshot management...i didn't go for it. i went to a few meetings to see what it was about and it was complete bullshit. i've got principles, man.

This is what I am dancing to when I get married; The Flamingo's I Only Have Eyes For You

Probably one of the nicest songs ever.

I forced my sister into playing "Green Onions" by Booker T & The MG's for her wedding party entrance. There was NO way I was was walking out to "Celebrate Good Times!" Needless to say it was a pretty bad ass entrance song.

threetwooneZERO 06-26-2008 02:39 AM

i dunno how appropriate this is, but its got a nice groove to it.

Fattening Ass 06-26-2008 02:40 AM

i've said this before and i'll say it again

Queen - Another One Bites The Dust

The Monks - Monk Chant

I would give myself rep just for this.

he mentioned nothing about the sp so go away.

Qualifies as a "perhaps romantic, but not cheesy pop" song to me

High five, Mablak

that's fucked up. vacant eyes, dead eyes. really unromantic.

if i'd have to go sp luna or strtj would be far more appropriate. straightforward lovesongs without the bs.

Deadeyes 06-26-2008 01:14 PM

Yeah, my life has been empty, my life has been untrue? way to bring the house down you inconsiderate assholes.
This song is about some negative creep thinking the world revolves around him and that his mate should be like him, nothing to do with love at all, bastards.

ravenguy2000 06-26-2008 01:32 PM

Maybe you should just play songs everyone else will like and enjoy so you don't come off as precious, self-centered dillweeds.

GlasgowKiss 06-26-2008 02:27 PM

The smashing pumpkins reek of insincerity.

Love to watch you at a block party, beggin for drama
While unleashin on the old timers, that's on my mama
I would trade my life for yours, behind closed doors
the only girl that I adore, everything I'm askin for
Talkin to me beggin me to just, take you around
Seventeen like Brandy you just Wanna Be Down
Talkin loud when I tell you be quiet you move the crowd
Bustin rounds, activatin a riot, that's why I love you so
No control, down to roll, unleash
After a hit you break apart, then back to one piece
Much love to my one and only girlfriend, the world is ours
Just hold me down, baby witness the power
Never leave a nigga alone, I love you black or chrome
Turn this house into a happy home, me and my girlfriend

okay so i just finalized my playlist for saturday. not gonna name off everysong, but this is how it flows;

after the first 3 songs (first dance, daddy daughter, son & mother) it flows;

oldies
80s/disco mixed
90s dance pop
current top 40 hits (& some from last summer & the summer before)
80s "classics" (think springsteen, mellencamp, police)
early 90s club hits
disco
classic rock
boy bands
"girlie music" (think gwen, madonna, beyonce, etc. stuff you guys hate)
a bit more classic rock
90s alternative
britpop (i call this the 'dance cave' section)
r&b/hip hop
a little country (really, just islands in the stream)
then a handful of power ballads & winding down music
ends with november rain

i know, it seems fucked but it all flows and suits our tastes pretty well. a few power ballads thrown in every few sets for slow dances, of course.

Dogfighter28 08-06-2009 10:46 AM

My sister walked down the aisle to Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (song)

:erm:

pale_princess 08-06-2009 10:49 AM

yeah if i still had the mentality i had at 18 i'd probably be doing the same and my playlist would be a lot shittier and snottier and no one would have any fun except me. hah. good thing i wasn't a child bride.

publius clodius 08-06-2009 12:06 PM

more parties should have that kind of diversity

i'd throw in a bit of classic soul / funk

pale_princess 08-06-2009 12:26 PM

^ i lumped those in with the "oldies" part :)

play another wedding song
a wedding song goes on and on
see the churches falling down
this is only in your mind
we're useless
we're useless
all their dresses stand so white
all the brides are all in white
play another wedding song
a wedding song goes on and on
we're useless
we're useless
walking on the paper ruins
shoes and rice and one two three
picking through the plastic ruins
of my useless memory
make a line of useless women
make a line of useless men
love me love me love me love
again again again again
we're useless
we're useless
completely
