The ratio: do you buy or burn records?
Since nowadays the fat nerds just sit at home and download shit, I'd like to know what do you do: do you buy your records or just download and burn music?
I myself buy almost everything - to date I've burned only 3 albums: Postishead's PNYC (a long time ago), Zwan (before it came out I burned the mp3s, I did buy the CD+DVD version) and Justin Timberlake's Justified (there're only like a handful of songs worth listening to). And I buy about 2-10 albums per month, plus various singles and vinyl quite a lot also. I know a lot of people here buy a lot of cds (like Gav): so what about you? |
Yeah, so the ratio for me would be like 99% bought/1% burned...
|
yeah, the ratio for me is probably 30:1 (bought : burned)
|
90% bought
|
i do download, but i never burn. If i really like a band, i'll buy their music.
|
my percentage of burned cds is about .003%. and those five are all either stuff ive got on vinyl or things that have been out of print for a long time.

anyway, i think my ratio is about 50-50 |
I think I have, tops, 5 burned albums from friends who wanted me to sample music and these are ones I didn't enjoy but kept in case I listened to them later.
So, my ratio would be ~700/5. Less than 1%. If you throw in bootlegs as burned discs, that ratio is ~900/205, closer to 20-25%. |

Nowadays, it's probably about 50-50. I do buy as many CDs as I can afford, though. Unfortunately, working at the school paper pays shit, and I have everything else I have to pay for, so usually I only buy anywhere from four to seven CDs a month.

Yeah, I buy as much as I can afford. When I burn an album it usually means I'll buy it as soon as I have the chance. Probably 35%, maybe more, of what I have right now is burned.
|
I buy more albums when I download single songs. I hate burned albums. I think I have about 3 burned albums but I bought the album eventually.
|
99.9 bought, .1 burned (by other people, since i don't own a computer.
well. wait. oops. that would imply that i had 1000 cds. which i don't. whatever. math is gay. |
Okay, you do the math for me. In the last month, I've bought 12 CDs and burned 18. However, 6 of those were multiple album MP3 discs for my portable player. I don't know how calculate that.
|
i probably buy about 25 albums a year and burn around 50.
before i had a cd burner i bought around 25 albums a year and burned nothing. |
95 percent burned
|
Probably about three percent of my CD's are burned. It makes me feel uncomfortable, though. I feel like I'm cheating everyone, including myself, my having them. And besides, it's just more fun to have the real thing.
|
900 titles, 927 discs, 138 of them CD-R So, out of entire collection (including double discs), about 15% of my discs are burned. |
Actually, now that I really calculate the records:
745 records (cd, cds, lp, 7", 10", 12") and 3 burned that would total 3/745 x100 = 0,4. So that's 0,4 % I think... |
Probably 10 bought for every 1 burned. If I really like an album I burn I usually buy it and use the one I burned in the car.
|
I don't own a single burned disc. 100% bought.

I don't own any burnt discs of officially released stuff, unless someone has given me a little compilation or something, I buy it all baby
|
i used to burn all my crap except sp and zwan stuff
but then, i dunno, i started buying, and im actually throwing out the burnt copies i download the album, give it a listen, if it has 3 or more goood songs i buy it |

The only time I ever have a burned album is if a friend copied a cd for me and I didn't like it (if I liked it, I'd buy it).
But anyways, out of about 500 albums, I think I have 2 burned discs... and I don't listen to them because they suck, otherwise I'd own them |

i'm guessing my burnt stuff is around 2% max.
