Does anyone know anything about vintage speakers?
 

I just picked up a pair of AR14s from the side of the road in a trash pile. I hooked them up to my father's stereo and they seem to work, but the rubber cushion thing that the speaker cone rests on seems to have deteriorated entirely. Are these good speakers for their time? Are they worth keeping? My friend who knows a little bit about stereo equipment said that I could have blown out the speakers because I did not set the impedance level on the stereo before I turned it on. I don't even know what that really means, but anything that anyone knows about these or Acoustic Research speakers in general would be cool.
