is it possible to sleep oneself to death

say you went to sleep one night but couldn't be bothered to get out of bed ever again and just kept going back to sleep. would you eventually die from it.

Unless you are connected to a feeding tube, my sources say yes.

Rockin' Cherub 02-25-2008 11:00 AM

you would die from starvation, not from sleep.

Rockin' Cherub 02-25-2008 11:00 AM

dudes this is a perfect moment to fondle each others testicles

Thirst, not starvation

i forgot to outline that i meant so regardless of whether you're being nourished or not- i meant would your brain eventually shut down simply from a lack of use. even if you were kept physically healthy otherwise.

no that's what happens when people keep posting here

??? 02-25-2008 11:02 AM

like, some people come out of comas with brain damage right? could the same thing happen just from oversleeping.

apart from the brain being a physical part of the body, no, that would not happen. it would only happen as a result from a lack of water, which affects the whole body.

no because ordinary sleep results in waking up

you're right. lack of water it is.

??? 02-25-2008 11:06 AM

obviously there are many examples of prolonged sleeping periods being possible (hibernation, cryostasis, comas) but surely brains are more fallible with regard to memory functions than a computer. if you were put in cryostasis for 50 years and woke up surely there's a huge chance that you would have forgotten alot of things.

Rockin' Cherub 02-25-2008 11:09 AM

you were talking about death though.

rolmos 02-25-2008 11:12 AM

If you were nourished by tubes, you'd probably die because of all the accumulated fecal matter in your bed.

??? 02-25-2008 11:15 AM

well memory loss effectively counts as brain damage, right? if you can get one form of it then i don't see why the mind couldn't fully deteriorate over a long enough period of time, even if the brain was appropriately preserved. you could become a vegetable, and thats practically death, isn't it?

Rockin' Cherub 02-25-2008 11:16 AM

no it's not. and the brain isn't just a memory storage

Anna Nicole slept herself to death... she also slept herself to success. Therefore she's a successful corpse.

i was afraid something in my head would be damaged last time i got drunk. i only had a beer and some vodka and another beer, but it was like i was delirious or something i was waving my arms around for no reason and shaking all over and i couldn't see
