what is the best and most expensive wine you have had

this is probably a long shot asking on netphoria but I thought I'd try

bf and I are going to buy a really nice bottle of wine for valentines day and I am doing some research on what we should get

noyen 01-31-2008 11:53 PM

and you think expensive = good?

Future Boy 01-31-2008 11:54 PM

Two buck chuck.

sickbadthing 01-31-2008 11:54 PM

just one?

I'm Hardcore 01-31-2008 11:57 PM

$10 rubbish that made me vomit after only 4 bottles

bardy 02-01-2008 12:22 AM

after I made this thread I knew someone was going to pull the

WHY DOES EXPENSIVE = GOOD BLAHBLAHBLAH

they are two separate categories

the most expensive wine I've had was probably like silver oak cab and it was kinda gross

noyen 02-01-2008 12:24 AM

so if you're so psychic, why are you so surprised and upset someone said it. the most expensive wine i've had has also been the most terrible wine i've had. you put the word EXPENSIVE in there. if you asked for good wine, well, then you'd get good wine suggestions. GOOD EXPENSIVE WINE FOR MY BF.

I NEED TO USE AUTOCAD!!

sickbadthing 02-01-2008 12:25 AM

yeah but there are plenty of wines in the $10-$20 range that are really good. if you guys aren't regular wine drinkers you probably won't taste the difference of a more expensive one anyway.

Ihaman 02-01-2008 12:31 AM

I buy a bottle of Opus One every year for my birthday. It's my gift to myself.

It's not bad.

sickbadthing 02-01-2008 12:35 AM

Here's what you do:

Get a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Champagne. It's expensive and you don't have to worry about tasting bad.

that sounds hardly surprised and I don't know where you are getting the 'upset' part----

the caps are imitating the rage in the response I knew I was going to get

Warsaw 02-01-2008 12:39 AM

I tried wine once.

anyway, to clarify

there are multiple paths here

maybe the most expensive wine was the best one

maybe you would like to talk about an expensive wine you had that was gross

maybe you just want to brag about the most expensive wine you've had

maybe you want to suggest a nice wine that I could buy.

bardy 02-01-2008 12:40 AM

noyen it doesnt make you sound any more correct when you repeat things over and over

sickbadthing 02-01-2008 12:41 AM

red white or what

you know what, it really doesn't matter. I guess the things I drink the most are chardonnay and cab...

I really hate dry red wines and I really like crisp white wines

i like red wines that are kinda earthy

Ihaman 02-01-2008 12:43 AM

Your answer is a 2006 Opus One, it's expensive, and it's good.

noyen 02-01-2008 12:43 AM

bardy, it doesnt make you sound any more oblivious, when you sound oblivious.

sickbadthing 02-01-2008 12:44 AM

chardonnay is a dry white wine
cabernet is a dry red wine

what is an earthy red wine?

Ihaman 02-01-2008 12:45 AM

Hey everyone, I think Ihaman wants you to know that Opus One during an even year is good.

true that.
i don't claim to know anything about wine, this is just stuff i like....

Plumpjack Syrah - i think it was a 2000. about 40$ is one of my all time favorites.
Mirassou Merlot is less than 10$ and one of my fave regular purchases. One of the years that's always on sale though isn't so great, i think the 2004 isn't so great, the 2003 is good.
BV 2004 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is in the 80$ range and very tasty.

bardy 02-01-2008 12:51 AM

I had a wine the other week, it was Mossback Pinot Noir

http://www.crewwinestore.com/index.c...sc,%20P.Price1

I would classify that as a pretty earthy tasting wine

like it tasted like the brand name
