Little Moments of Bliss

There are moments of songs that kick me right in the gut and remind me exactly why i love this band so much.

One of the first such moments I first noticed in 94 or so, when I was driving somewhere and this part came on; gave me goosebumps. And it still does that to me.

The second one is from here is no why, the solo and the moments just before it kicks in. The tension built by those layered squealing guitars, then boomboomBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMRELEASE. It's kinda sexual. And sex is good.

what are some of YOUR favorite little moments in SP songs?

byebyejune 01-26-2008 12:40 PM

The guitar solo riiiiight before he sings "Bring me down" in Plume. The singing is so lackadaisical, and that mixed in with the guitars distortion = amazing.

I need a cigarette now.

SlingeroGuitaro 01-26-2008 01:03 PM

indeed ;)

except for maybe 'echoes' when im on mushrooms.

rolmos 01-26-2008 01:12 PM

Siva: The solo right after "She said, I'm dead..." The guitar sounds like it's literally screaming.

skipgo 01-26-2008 01:14 PM

that section of here is no why is so perfectly arranged.

it reminds me of something my husband was saying about the tom petty song "here comes my girl", where the verses build this sort of uncomfortable tension, then the chorus is a great relief. Of course, that section of here is no why is nothing like here comes my girl, (oh, except they both start with "here"), but that tension/release thing in a song is great.

Mo 01-26-2008 01:14 PM

Everything in Starla; Soma when it finally kicks in; and of course Porcelina, the first riff.

Man.

TTEOR = "and with this ring i wed the true" to " so let me tell you" thats really the orgasm of MCIS, and the 2 minute outro oh man... *fap* anyway

TOASE = "and youre all 'ores and im a fag..."

Wound = "If you wait i will wait..."

Sacred and Profane = "will our love eva be enough?..."

IOTM = the last chorus when the guitars really kick in

Age of innoncence = The guitars right after the first chorus.

In My Body = the intro

Hello Kitty Kat - the amazing solo in the middle and the outro

BWBW - " and what have you gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaht"

To forgive - the part with violins at the end. " i forget to forget me..."

In the arms of sleep - "i ill do anything..."

By Starlight - "my life has been empty, my life has been untrue..."

Geek USA solo near the end and outro

pug ending

ava adore ending "in you i feel do dirty...."

once upon a time, most of song

shame - chorus: sheeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaammmmee

behold - beginning and ending

for martha - "long horses we are born"

7 shades - neat solo in the middle, and chorus

BTL - " a flower song" to the solo

FG&C - "who needs this anymore... "

eye - chorus

drown - first little slow harmonized guitar solo

hummer - intro and verse

bury me - solo and part after solo

tristessa - solo

daydream - where the cello kicks in

today - " dayyyeeyyayyee ooooooooooooh and small guitar solo" and " i wanna turn you on"

silverfuck - various little licks in it

whir - ending

cherub rock - "let me out"

waiting - " yes i am waiting"

glass - end chorus

saturnine - "blur these simple features"

winterlong "givin it up to the sun..."

conclusion, i have too much free time

whoa skipgo.... from your website or whatever it is

"I just downloaded it (I do plan to buy it on the 10th, I’m all about supporting Smashing Pumpkins). My curiosity couldn’t be contained, I had to hear it. On first listen, I find it much better than Machina, and I like it better than Adore as well, not to mention Billy Corgan’s solo album, TheFutureEmbrace and Zwan’s “Mary Star of the Sea”. Standout tracks for me ******* “Starz”, “Neverlost”, “That’s the Way (my love is)” and “United States”. I’d upload a few songs, but I’m pretty sure I’d be getting some threatening emails from warner brothers soon. It’s out there though, plenty of people have it now, so if you’re interested in finding it, you shouldn’t have much trouble."

try, try, try (alt) has many moments of bliss, at least for me.

bja1288 01-26-2008 04:52 PM

Beautiful 1:50-2:40
Bury Me 3:00
Silverfuck - bang bang youre dead
Love 2:40-3:10
Starz 2:40 to end
Ma Belle 2:30-3:00

i_adore_adore 01-26-2008 06:25 PM

in "Quiet," I can't even tell you the time or where it occurs exactly (I think it's the part where the time sig switches from 3/4 to 4/4) when that extra guitar is in the background just strumming this sweet chord. I dunno. But it's cool. I only noticed it this year.

The intro to Ma Belle (sweet bass sound)

The last part of the Rose March when the drums kick in.

The piano in Soma

The guitar solo in Soma

The guitar solo in Rhino

I could go on, but I won't.

I dunno how I forgot that. Definitely one of Billy's greatest vocal moments.

dying of aids on a sunny april afternoon

murraymina78 01-26-2008 11:37 PM

Soma: like everyone else, esp. from 5:02 "so let the sadness come again, on that you can depend on me ..."

Mayonaise: from 4:23 and how it builds till "I just want to be meee"

1979: at 2:31 "to the lights and towns below, faster than the speed of sound, faster than we thought we'd go, beneath the sound of hope"

SIYL: "And for the first time...I'll wrap my wire around your heart and you're mine, You're mine forever" A lot of people hate it but it's one of my favorites.

I enjoyed doing this little exercise. I feel like going through every song doing it.

I'm right there with you Skipgo, those are two of my absolute favorites. Also:

Soma solo- like everyone else- it's like he's reaching for the heavens, or cursing them, or something

By Starlight- Live, "Cause my life has been empty, my LIFE has been untrue" Distorted guitar kicks in.... and literally everything after that, "Dead eyes, are you just like me?" + outro guitar solo

Porcelina- "To the fringes gladly, I walk unadorned, with gods and their creations, with filth and disease... Porcelina"

In general, Pumpkins do great lead guitar at the ends of songs- Vanity, Disarm live, Muzzle, etc

F&G- For whatever reason, the ending piano solo... probably because its the end of MCIS and makes me nostalgic/feels like the end of a journey coming full circle

Rocket- "I miss me... I miss everything I'll never be"

Bury Me- Buildup and outro solo

For Martha- Solo and everything after!!! Makes me wanna cry

I could probably go on. Great thread, even if it has been done before.

Anything in Plume, really.

And same goes for all of Quiet.

JRiordan 01-27-2008 04:40 AM

La Dolly Vita -- the ending build-up and explosion

Glynis -- pretty much the whole song

Starla -- entire jam

Untitled -- solo / ending

Rocket - solo / whole song
