Please God, don't make it suck. I don't think I could take another like their last one.

Nate the Grate 01-24-2008 06:28 PM

Yeah I really, really don't have high hopes. How did Around the Sun suck so bad when Bad Day was actually pretty damn good? Oh that's right, it was written in the 80's.

pale blue eyes 01-24-2008 06:30 PM

Final Straw got my hopes up for it. It wasn't a great song but it sounded promising at least.

smashapumpkin 01-24-2008 06:31 PM

well heres a live version of the first single

smashapumpkin 01-24-2008 06:33 PM

and this is an actual song from the album playing in the background

i like this one beter

AndySlash 01-24-2008 06:35 PM

They put fucking I'm Gonna DJ on there? Ugh. Ugh Ugh Ugh.

AndySlash 01-24-2008 06:36 PM

The fact that Stringfellow isn't involved in the album or tour is a good sign, though. For all the talk of it being a guitar record, I do hope it's not Monster 2.0.

Final Straw is a great song.

pale blue eyes 01-24-2008 06:45 PM

It's a good one and the best on the album, I'll give you that. Though I haven't heard it in a while since I like to pretend their last album never happened.

Nimrod's Son 01-24-2008 07:01 PM

It's sad that I kinda wish it'd been Stipe instead of Layne.

Spaceboy88 01-24-2008 10:44 PM

Is it so much to ask for an "Automatic For the People II?"

As bad as around the sun was...I still think they have potential..unlike Layne who was too burned out

IWishIWasBlank 01-25-2008 10:29 AM

I didn't realize anyone here liked REM. Last album I bought was New Adventures. Didn't like it at first, but then it grew on me. Unlike Monster.

pale blue eyes 01-25-2008 10:41 AM

Up was their last really good one.

Nate the Grate 01-25-2008 12:01 PM

R.E.M. has a strange knack for writing some really awesome, brilliant songs, and then writing some tremendously bad songs that leave you wondering how they could be the same band. I mean, what made them think the Worst Joke Ever was a good song?

You didn't get it. It's called the worst joke ever for a reason, stupid.
j/k

Up was amazing. Everything since has blown

smashapumpkin 01-25-2008 10:29 PM

i didnt love new adventures so much, except for ebow the letter

pale blue eyes 01-25-2008 11:10 PM

Leave is pretty great.

Pretzel Logic 01-25-2008 11:21 PM

I only have Out Of Time but I want to get more into them. What's their best album?

pale blue eyes 01-25-2008 11:29 PM

Automatic For the People.

Nate the Grate 01-25-2008 11:56 PM

Automatic for the People is a classic. Best end-of-album three song series ever.

you guys are too young to remember when R.E.M. were good and michael stipe wasn't such a douche bag and his band didn't completely suck.

murmur-reckoning-fables of the reconstruction-lifes rich pageant are all equally good in my book, not too hard to get into

That sounds like another bald headed rockstar.

wpc33 01-26-2008 07:03 PM

I don't believe Stipe to be douchey, either.

I don't get why everyone hates on Monster so much. The guitars and vocals and lyrics and overall production of this album are fabulous. King of Comedy, I Took Your Name... this album is fuckin' cool.

Of course, the only R.E.M. records that really appeal to me are Monster, Up, & Out Of Time...So feel free to write me off as somebody who doesn't get "the real REM". Fair is fair.

But I always assumed people more generally loved those albums, and generally they don't.
Why? Aside from being out of left field ala Adore.

Nate the Grate 01-26-2008 07:21 PM

Strange Currencies is an awesome song. The rest...not so much.
