logically you are absolutely right, but thats just not the kind of thing you do to
your friends. at least not regularly.
if its only me and a bunch of people i dont really care about, i act the same as you.
but with close friends its the kind of actions that tend to stir shit up.

but.. i'm not doing anything... to my friends....

I did, they told me to get the restaurant to fax them some information or something. When I told the manager that he just ignored me and gave me my money back.

Thats a given, I meant eating with him.

jczeroman 12-18-2007 02:42 PM

Black, White? It doesn't matter - I refrain from tipping all equally.

show 'em those anti-tipping guns tiger!

Irridescent Fairysex 12-18-2007 02:50 PM

by guns I didn't mean firearm weapons, but your olympic biceps.

Starla 12-18-2007 03:09 PM

It all depends.

If the waiter or waitress is clearly having a bad day, and they are the only one in a section that is overloaded with tables, then I leave a tip anyway.

If it's not that busy, the service is rude, and we are left sitting for long periods of time without drink refills etc. I won't tip at all.

After than 20 minutes, the waitress finally comes over with the drinks, still without my Coke, so I had to remind her that I had ordered one. Then she took our order. The food came out at a reasonable time. When it came time for the check, I said we weren't tipping. Everyone thought I was the biggest asshole for even saying that. I think we put the regular tip amount in. I was pissed. The waitress was black and so were two of the people I was with so I can see why they would tip, but the two others? It really shouldn't matter what race you are. If you get fucked over, it shouldn't matter.

20 minutes is not that bad. If the food came out hot and at a reasonable time I don't know what your complaining about. You were with two black people? Why weren't you at the sizzler then?

Now, c'mon! 20 minutes? Imagine you're driving on the highway with your family in a nice vacation trip. Everyone is admiring the beautiful landscape while the kids are singing songs and acquiring memories they will not ever forget. All of a sudden a cow crosses the road, the damn beast won't move. Will you wait 20 minutes to press the brake, turn the wheel or dodge the accident? Do you think your family would tip you after they waited for you 20 minutes to resolve the situation? No, they wouldn't, they would be dead.

One is ghetto black. The other is white black.

You read what I wrote wrong. It took 20 minutes JUST for the drinks. THEN she took our order after the 20 minutes of waiting for our drinks. 20 minutes for drinks is inexcusable. I used to be a waiter. If I ever did that I'd have to give the customer head.

redchandelier 12-18-2007 03:36 PM

I always tip NO MATTER WHAT, and believe me I've had some crappy service ( I once had to wait 40 fucking minutes for our drinks and I wanted to leave but my friends kept insisting on staying), but I never make others "feel bad" (or comment) for not tipping, it's not and obligation it's a choice, and most of my friends think I tip way to much in the first place, so they are the ones always giving me shit when it comes to tipping, not the other way around.

you're on obstacle to progress, a catalyst for mediocrity. you should get some perspective, you proud tipping bastard.

twice 12-18-2007 03:40 PM

i wonder how many people would fail to leave any tips at all after having served others themselves. i've had shitty service, who hasn't- but i always think the fact of the matter is that if the person is at the very least present and serves you your food-period- they deserve some sort of compensation. if they're simply fucking rude and spit in your meals then nevermind but nothing at all seems a bit harsh

This may be the best response ever in a tipping thread. I suspect you yourself may not even be aware of the genius displayed. I have read it possibly ten times now and it has not worn thin. Gold.
