PC Party Foul
So I'm at this Christmas Party on Saturday night. And it so happens that it's being hosted by a lesbian friend of mine, so there are probably more gay people there than straight people. I'm feeling pretty drunk, as is everyone else in the room, and somebody brings up the Transformers movie. I said I hated it, and when the person asked me why I yelled out "BECAUSE THAT MOVIE IS FUCKIN GAY". So, realizing what I did, I went into drunk damage-control mode and addressed the room - "Oh hey, it's cool. I meant gay in the DEROGATORY way, not the way that everyone in this room is." People just kinda laughed it off because I think they knew how smashed I was. Pretty embarrassing, anyways.
Has anybody ever had a similar experience using "gay" or "retarded" as slang for something other than what it normally means? What happened? |

Kenny's looking pretty gay himself there

i've never had a similar experience, sorry.

saying "i meant it in the derogatory way" is a really awful cover up man.
|

I said some course I'd done was totally gay while talling to a couple of guys, one of whom is gay. He gave me shit about it, something like "oh god, that's so straight!' or words to that effect but it was no biggie. Felt like a bit of a dick though.

Once I was out to dinner with my extended family in South Carolina where my aunt lives. She took us to this really nice surf and turf place where her friend worked, and he actually waited on us. At some point I referred to something is as "ridiculously gay" while he was refilling someone's water like 4 feet away. When he walked away I was informed that he was in fact gay. I felt pretty bad, I didn't mean to offend anyone, I was just being stupid. But not nearly as bad as suncrashesdown's story.

People also overuse the term 'gay' in Scotland to mean something that is lame or shit. People who generally use it don't have much in the way of intelligence. The same people also say 'don't be black' when they mean 'don't be disgusting'

my ex-girlfriend had an older brother with downs syndrome (i think it was downs syndrome anyway) who i'd never met. a few times i made a comment that something was 'retarded' or someone was 'retarded' and she got pretty dark at me.
not that i mean dark like the way black people are. i mean it in the angry sense. |
suncrashesdown - get some new adjectives

It might be an Ayrshire thing- used in sentences such as "don't be a blacko" it probably comes from coal mining rather than a race thing I'd guess. |
