I had a hard time answering the thermostat one. Its at 68 in the winter, and 78 in the summer. Spring and fall its off a lot of the time. I put in 72 as an average but it makes it sound like we use a lot more heat / air than we really do |

YOUR ECP SCORE IS: 201 YOUR CARBON OUTPUT IS: 4.1
(for two people, if that's how this works) my bf is really good at making me save energy. we always unplug our tv, microwave and other appliances whenever they're not in use, and i can;t leave the lights on for a moment too long withough him bugging me about it. it can be annoying, but i know it's the right thing to do. i've decided that in 2008, i am going to start buying more local food. right now i just buy whatever's cheapest. it's now time to work on making my family change. they're the real offenders. |
i probably wouldn't do as well on this test as i should, considering i go to school for the environment. but soon i will walk my talk as i transform gray city to urban jungle!

it's hard not to buy local food where I live

Not too shabby. It'll drop down even lower once my husband gets rid of his old, huge, polluting Town Car. |

Believe it or not it was easier for me to buy locally in cali than here in montana. It's nothing but cattle ranching around here, and the closest free range/organic farms are 4-6 hour drives. Eating organic is not popular here either.

the level to which you have no idea what your talking about is blowing my mind right now. |
I suspect your mind isnt hard to blow given that you think your username is so special that it warrants donating to have a custom title that points it out.

nice comeback.. were you done trying to explain to me why my car was hypocritical and why nuclear power was worse than fossil fuels? edit: constructive criticism taken.. i admit my custom title was pretty lame. I was trying to think of something a long time ago and used that as a filler and then i forgot to change it. i have made everything better now. |
It's good to buy local anything (food, clothing, etc) whenever you can.

if you knew anything about nuclear power, or even the basics of radiation.. you would know that there is more radioactivity found naturally in the environment (by many, many orders of magnitude) than has ever been or will ever be released from the generation of electrical power |

good point.. but what about many small farmers with a beet-up old truck, transporting a small amount of goods to the market.. vice the efficiency of large ships and trains carrying much much more food per gallon of fuel? i am not saying i am not in favor of local food.. but is there something else? |

no, thats not true at all. I enjoy off-roading as a hobby, and i live in an area that gets a lot of snow and don't like to get stuck in it. I also enjoy riding to the beach with the top down in the summer. Thats why i own a jeep. |

Lets face it, even an american can point to examples of nuclear power ruining the enviroment. You use it to excuse your disregard for your responsibility for the enviroment, and you even seem to think you should be lauded for it. Until you try some humility regarding the enviroment you'll always be a hypocritical asshole. |

nuclear power is the only thing that we know of right now that has the potential to save the environment. do your homework. even if they made an electric jeep i still wouldn't buy one because with our current infrastructure you would have to burn more fossil fuels in a power plant to make the electricity to run the jeep, than you would have burned in the first place having a gasoline powered jeep. once we have an electrical grid dominated by clean sources, like nuclear, geothermal, and to a lesser extent solar and wind.. i will be the first person to buy an electric car. also, advancing technologies in hi-density batteries will make these things practical in years to come. don't talk to me like i haven't thought about this, or don't know what i am doing. |
