40th Anniversary of Patterson Bigfoot film
 

Forty years ago today, on October 20, 1967, Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin claimed to have filmed a hairy, bipedal Bigfoot-type creature. Their film remains controversial, with some declaring it a hoax of a man in an ape suit and others arguing for its authenticity.







At first glance it looks like a man in an ape suit, but when compared side by side to film of an actual man in an ape suit, the differences are quite obvious.

Anyone know what Saurians are? They're supposed to be a cross between big foot and aliens from outer space. I used to read up on this stuff a lot a year ago because I'd heard a Saurian roamed the grounds of the Pasadena Forest aka the Haunted Forest in California.

Anyone have anything similar they'd like to contribute to this, or the post?

in junior high when i was late for school and missed the bus i walked thru the woods and on three seperate occasions i saw this wild turkey thing with pokadot feathers. i would tell people at school about this and draw pictures but they didnt believe me... i wish i had a camera/ it would look at me with utter distain

If it was a hoax, then it seems odd that no one has ever come close to recreating it. I've watched a lot of fake Bigfoot videos, and I've never seen one that even comes anywhere nearly as close to making me think it might be genuine as the Patterson film does. Most "man in a suit" videos are very very easy to spot as being a costume, and this one isn't. If it's a costume, then it was a pretty damn fancy one.

Granted there have been some pretty high profile photos/incidents that were revealed as hoaxes. The most famous picture of the Loch Ness monster (the "Surgeon's Photograph") was owned up to as being fake a few years back. And there was also something in the news a few years back where a guy revealed that he had faked a bunch of Bigfoot footprints that were found in the woods somewhere and kinda sparked the Bigfoot craze in the 60s. I think a lot of people combined those two bits of news in their head and thus mistakenly think that the Patterson footage was definitively proven to be a hoax when it really hasn't. If it is a hoax, no one's owned up to it yet.

One of the guys that shot it died in the 70s. The other one is still alive. As far as I know both have always maintained the video is real. But there have been people who have claimed to have helped with the hoax (ie. providing the costume, wearing the suit, etc.) but their claims are pretty much unsubstantiated.

You have to be retarded hokey to think its a great idea to film a guy in a suit and go out and claim its bigfoot, and you have to be even more retarded to lend the stunt any credence. And what is with this baiting people to refute this video as balderdash? a person who makes a claim is the one responsible for authenticating that claim, it is not for the opposing party to debunk. jesus you're retarded.

People have tried to prove it's a hoax by attempting to recreate it. None of those recreations have succeeded however, because they look laughably like a man in a gorilla suit. No one has been able to recreate the way this creature moves. The gait, the way the arms swing, the way the head turns in relation to the upper torso, the way the muscles can be seen flexing beneath the fur, etc.

Are people actually taking this seriously, that video's always looked laughably fake to me. Kind of reminds me of how people might've thought the original planet of the apes had realistic costumes/makeup back in the day, but now it's annoyingly unrealistic and retro.

Regardless whether or not the footage is real, it's pretty ignorant to believe that humans are the only kind of beings that roam the earth.
