Washington, DC by Gore Vidal is pretty good.

Lorca is a good spanish author, but he's more of a playwright/poet. I studied Blood Wedding for A level theatre, and its kind of long winded but it's bizzare and beautiful..

try lorrie moore. "birds of america" is a really great collection.
