How can I convince my parents to let me go to Vegas?

By myself, in the middle of the school year with a bunch of people I met on the internet?

I've been invited to join a few netphorians in Las Vegas for the first week in November. How can I present this to my parents with the maximum possiblity of them saying yes?

Ideas, plz.

If you have an unrestricted driver's lisence, then just bolt and face the consequences when you get back.

Just go and hope they don't notice that you're gone.

And/or try NOT mentioning that the people you are meeting up with are people you know from the internet.

I don't know if going to Vegas by myself sounds any better.

Ammy 06-25-2002 05:55 PM

find a good friend and parent that will lie for you. say you're going with them.

do NOT mention that they are all internet friends. it's just not gunna work.

Vacancy 06-25-2002 05:55 PM

Didn't work for someone I know. It'll all come back to him in the end. ******, be honest and just do it anyway http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/tongue.gif

Smiley33 06-25-2002 06:02 PM

uh, yeah. Just say "this is what I'm planning on doing. So you know where I am." Otherwise, like...yeah, it fucking sucks when they find out you've bullshitted them. Right now I sort of have the "this is what I'm doing, if it's bad, I'll find out for myself. I'll listen to your opinions but i won't necessarily take your advice" relationship with my parents. But that came after fucking up, so I cant tell you how to get there.

Anyway, babbling aside, you're almost 18 aren't you? If they feel you're pretty level headed then I'm sure they won't flip too much.

"mom and dad.....I don't want to break the law. The only way I am ever going to get laid is by going to Vegas, where prostitution is legal. I'm looking out for the family reputation here"

Yeah, but I've seen first hand what happens if you get caught. And all the angles were covered here. http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/frown.gif

BlueStar 06-25-2002 06:11 PM

Before you even ask your parents, do all the research and know all the answers to all their questions. Be able to lay out for them exactly how much it is going to cost, where you are going to stay, how you plan on getting around, etc., etc. You don't have to lie completely, but telling your parents that you know these people from the internet is really not going to help your case. Try telling them that you met them at a Pumpkins concert and you've kept in touch with them ever since. It would probably also help if you said something about how one of the people you are meeting lives in Vegas and that that person's parents will be watching out for ya'll.

Yeah, I've gotten caught three times...one of them being when I took off to Vegas. But, I have also gotten away with many many trips. What sucks most is that I'm 23 and have to lie to my parents about where I'm going and what I'm doing...it's just ridiculous.

One thing that should help, absolutely work your ass off in the first few months of school. Do everything you can to get A's in all your classes. It should make them really happy and more agreeable.

How exciting! be safe http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/smile.gif.
I'd be really cautious about telling your parents you only know them via the internet, unless they understand that kind of thing. tell them you met them at a concert or something. Or try and see if you can plan it out to where they'd think you were with a friend they actually know. Just try and be as truthful as possible..."I'm going to vegas, and staying at this hotel", but mention your friends and not the actual people you'll be going with. Could you say you were going on a college visit or something? I wish I could say more about convincing instead of lying, but taking a trip to Vegas with people your parents don't know is going to be hard for them to swallow.

But if you really, really, *really* want to go, as in you think this is going to be an amazing experience and a trip you'd always regret not taking, then go with or without their permission. If you want it bad enough, the consequences will always be worth it.

man, i went to another fucking country without my parents knowing. it was the most exhilarating feeling in the world, but man, did it suck when they found out.

Eulogy 06-25-2002 07:22 PM

Christ. My sister is your age, and there is absolutely no fucking way my parents would ever even for a second consider letting her do something like this. In fact, my sister would never even for a second consider asking them something like this.

Anyway, I'd have one of them come to meet you before you go to Vegas and have them be all nice and shit to your parents.

GET RID OF YOUR PARENTS! ITS THE ONLY WAY, THERE COMES A TIME IN EVERY BOYS LIFE WHEN YOU STAND UP AND SAY "FUCK OFF, TACOHEAD, I'M WEARING THESE PANTS AND I'M SICK OF YOUR SHIT". TOO MANY PEOPLE LIVE UUNDER THE SHADOW OF THEIR COMMUUNINST PARENTS, AND THE SOONER YOU REALIZE THAT ACCEPTANCE AND LOVE MEANS FUCKALL IN TEH SCHEME OF THINGS, YOU ARE BETTER OFF IN PRISON.

I don't know how to approach the parents, but I'll say for a fact Las Vegas is pretty pointless if you're not 21. There's definitely stuff to do, but you also have to note that if you're underage the stuff you can do does have a closing time. Truly, the best stuff is off limits to you, even some of the best shows. That's just my two cents.

NinjaTurtle 06-26-2002 02:17 AM
