Super Mario Bros. 3 Appreciation Post

Greatest. Game. Ever.

Big World's the best

------------------
KRAMER: I think it's over. We had a big fight, she threw me out, I started walkin', and now I'm lost downtown! I don't have any money. I don't recognize anybody. I miss home, and I don't even know how to get there.
JERRY: What's around you?
KRAMER: I'm lookin' at Ray's Pizza. You know where that is?
JERRY: Is it Famous Ray's?
KRAMER: No. It's Original Ray's.
JERRY: Famous Original Ray's?
KRAMER: It's just Original, Jerry!
JERRY: Well, what street are you on?
KRAMER: Hey, I'm on first and first. How can the same street intersect with itself? I must be at the nexus of the universe.
JERRY: Just wait there. I'll pick you up, and, Kramer, stay alive! No matter what occurs, I will find you!
KRAMER: Aah!

Seinboys!

i wouldn't call it the best, but it is pretty damn good.

------------------
this is a fun game of spanking the peopple that make your life miserable. When you spank the character that you choose to punish, the face expression of the character will change as they scream and twitch in pain. The funny face expressions will make people laugh and relieve the stress.

Mark LeDrew 06-21-2002 12:58 AM

I know you're all expecting me to weigh in on this but I'm not going to.

Ok I will. I think Super Mario World is probably the best in the series. And I recently gained a new appreciation for Yoshi's Island (Super Mario World 2). But yes, SMB3 is one hell of a fine game.

It's too bad she won't live, but then again, who does?

Andrew_Pakula 06-21-2002 01:37 AM

Back in the day I had that game mastered.

I used to be able to beat SMB 3 in under 1 hour.

The best Mario game ever made.

I will NEVER forget where the 3 warp whistles are. Mario Bros. 3 has my vote for greatest game of all time.

the game always makes me think of that movie The Wizard.

man, but for an 8-bit console game, it still looks really fucking good today.

I never use the warp whistles. I wanted to play all the levels. Using the warp whistle is like skipping tracks on a great album.

frail_and_bedazzled 06-21-2002 05:05 AM

yeah, remember in the 2nd world, the desert one, and that stupid fucking pyramid level, where that goddamned angry sun would swirl around? i fucking hated that. loved the game, though. oh my. i wish my system still worked http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/frown.gif
anyway, i can't believe i contributed to this topic

strange_one 06-21-2002 06:07 AM

the 8th world was always so hard at first

strange_one 06-21-2002 06:09 AM

btw, I think that super mario 2 has always been the best of the three games on the 8-bit console. it was just such a leap forward and there were some really crazy ideas in there, like those masks that used to chase you

strange_one 06-21-2002 06:12 AM

I'm trying to remember what all the worlds were, help me out:
1 - grass/hill world
2 - sand world
3 - water world
4 - big world
5 - cloud world?
6 - ice world?
7 - ?
8 - volcano/bowser/lava world

The very last level always freaked me out as a kid. Not the fiery one with the ships and tanks, but the one where it was completely black except for the area that you were at. The levels were really hard.

I think, that the hardest game of the series would have to be The Lost Levels. That game is like Mario 1 on heroine. Which uh, means that it is really hard, for some reason.

I wasted away the early part of my childhood playing various titles of the series of Mario and Luigi games. Even now I have been known to delve into the Mario, Luigi and Princess and all of those wiley characters world, and I must say that more often than not I can be found playing the third installment in this fine video game portrayal of the old King Arthur/Lancelot stories. At least, that is what I think it is trying to do. I mean, you've always got the magical item that you are looking for that solves whatever problem you are looking for, also you have to save that fucking princess all the time. Eh. Fabulous games, all of them.

Who could find the anchor?! WHO?!?!?

It was definitely the best 8-bit game of all time. I agree with ledrew, though, Super Mario World is the best Mario game. Hell, it's the best platform game of all time, even with stuff like SMW 2, Mario 64, and Klonoa coming after it.

if you didn't swim under all of those battleships of doom, you wasted lots of time.

Werd.

I prefer Mario 2. First thing I bought was SMA when it came out with the GBA. I beat it in a few hours. It was like great sex with an ex-girlfriend- familiar, yet extremely satisfying.

Graveflower 06-21-2002 12:18 PM

Mario 2 has always been my least favorite.

Nate the Grate 06-21-2002 12:40 PM

I beat it again last night. wow, must have been the first time since I was 8. Dark Land is really hard, but Koopa, for some reason, is really easy. I had to skip over the castle before the last ship, cause I had no idea how to beat it.

I grew up with this game. instead of being outside in the sun, I was inside learing every little secret that it held. that's probably why I'm so white.

interesting, seeing as how it wasn't originally even a Mario game. surely you know the story. no? well, it was released in Japan with some other name and different main characters. Nintendo wanted another Mario game to tide over the fans, so they just took that game, changed the main characters to the Mario people, and called it Mario 2.

I'd always heard some kind of story about it, not exactly that though, interesting, it explains why its such a weird game compared to mario 1. throwing the potions and then having a door appear in front of you was a hell of a lot different compared to just going down pipes

BeautifulLoser 06-22-2002 07:54 AM

SMB 3 owns...

Definitely my favorite classic Nintendo game, next to F-Zero.

Undone 06-22-2002 02:55 PM

The suits were fun too, especially the hammer bros. suit. You could totally whoop some ass in that thing. I think the most difficult levels were in the ice world. It's been a long time since I've played that game, but I was a total Nintendo nerd back in the day http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/wink.gif

I still think that the Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past is one of the best games ever.

But Chrono Trigger is number one. http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/smile.gif

I think M2 is the better game as well for its originality and utter uniqueness from the rest of the marios. however, it does have fault in that it was too easy.

Hey Mark, there's a SMW editor called Lunar Magic - it lets you build your own levels, and even a world map so you can produce your own new Mario World game. If you get *really* into it, you can make your own graphics (which is a little harder). The website that used to host it seems to have disappeared, but I think you can get it here
