Practice abstinence while I'm ovulating. It's worked out great so far...

Becoming a syphilitic leper is one of the best moves I've ever made, contraception wise.

pale blue eyes 08-24-2007 09:43 AM

Condoms. My other meds make birth control pills pretty much useless.

Trotskilicious 08-24-2007 10:26 AM

Isn't this like... totally fucking unsafe? :erm:

Lucy Sky Diamonds 08-24-2007 10:52 AM

Pill + condom. I'm not in a relationship, I'm not in the mood to get knocked up or get the syph.

no way, dude.
it's just as effective, it not more effective, than condoms, etc.

It just uses observation of a chick's biological signs so that she knows the exact moment of ovulation and therefore when she's fertile. Women are only fertile for about 48 hours out of the month (give or take their cycles).

Of course, this means that there are times when you have to abstain if you want to avoid pregnancy, but as long as you follow the rules it's like 99.9% effective and she isn't putting a bunch of chemicals or whatever in her body or unnaturally altering her biology with the possibility for nasty complications later in life (i.e. the pill).

no not really, thats what I do. You can only get pregnant a few days out of your cycle and if you know when those are...

but it does make any kind of hiccup with your cycle seem more scary than it is.

pale_princess 08-24-2007 11:17 AM

i couldn't do that. i'm horniest when i ovulate.

bardy 08-24-2007 11:18 AM

you can do other stuff

so exactly are these signs? do her boobs swell, or does she get some kind of red splotchiness somewhere?

Can I ask why you choose this method?

I know a lot of Catholic do it for mainly religious reasons but I think there has been an increase in non-Catholics using it because of the whole "it's natural" thing. So, what's up?

Dude, you don't even wanna know.
I had not idea what kinda stuff goes on "down there" and I kinda wish I didn't.

Let's just say it has to do with mucous.
And temperature.
It's pretty amazing, actually. New found respect for Biology/Human Body.

pale_princess 08-24-2007 11:23 AM

^ super oozier than usual girly fluids. it's pretty neat actually.

I hate taking pills every day. I am bad about remembering them and that makes the birth control pretty much useless anyway.

so how did you learn this method?
Do you take your temp or just do the ooziness observation?
We've got a whole chart for temps and plotting a graph and all this - seems way more complex than taking a pill.
sorry if this is too personal :erm:

bardy 08-24-2007 11:32 AM

I am very very very regular so the ummm ooziness factor is a pretty clear sign. I usually give a day or two on either end of that too just to be safe. If for some reason my cycle goes crazy and I misjudge then I guess it was time for me to get pregnant anyway. But thats pretty unlikely
