Texas Rangers 30, Baltimore Orioles 3

Freakin' amazing, especially seeing that it was just 14-3 after seven innings. The Rangers went on to tack on 10 in the 8th and 6 more in the 9th. Apparently it's the most runs scored by one team in a game since 1900. As many runs as the Rangers scored, no one on the team had more than 7 RBI, Saltalamacchia and Vazquez each had 7. All those runs and still no one could match Garrett Anderson's 10 RBI last night.

my god.

"It was the ninth time a major league team scored 30 runs, the first since Chicago set the major league record in a 36-7 rout of Louisville in a National League game on June 28, 1897, according to the Elias Sports Bureau."

sppunk 08-22-2007 08:57 PM

And that's the first game of the doubleheader.

Take Back Camden's going splendid. Can't happen to a nicer franchise.

Esty 08-22-2007 08:58 PM

I wonder which pitcher had to take one for the team? He can't possibly be happy.

sppunk 08-22-2007 09:00 PM

The best part of this game is the save!

Texas IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Gabbard (W, 6-1) 6.0 7 3 3 1 3 0 3.65
Littleton (S, 1) 3.0 2 0 0 1 1 0 3.86

And for Esty, only four guys pitched - they all took it up the ass:

Baltimore IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Cabrera (L, 9-13) 5.0 9 6 6 1 4 2 5.10
Burres 0.2 8 8 8 1 1 1 5.24
Bell 1.1 5 7 7 3 1 1 6.14
Shuey 2.0 7 9 9 3 5 2 9.49

Esty 08-22-2007 09:02 PM

Ugh, Burres should go and shoot himself in the locker. Thats horrible.

i don't even like the o's and that makes me want to vomit everywhere

Trotskilicious 08-22-2007 09:13 PM

how is there a save? I thought the only way you could get a save was if the game tying run was on deck.

neopryn 08-22-2007 09:14 PM

if he came into the game in that situation then it holds even if his team blows them away. i think so anyway.

sppunk 08-22-2007 09:25 PM

neopryn is correct.

And it's awesome to see what a $42 million bullpen does, huh jenniferkate?

distance 08-22-2007 09:29 PM

no.
if you pitch 3 innings to end a game, regardless of score, you get a save.

he could have come in at 10-3 and gotten the save even if it wasn't a typical 3 or less run lead that a 9th inning save situation is.

ratking17 08-22-2007 09:58 PM

distance is the correct one here.

Wow, this is a rare occurance in where I've actually learned something new, here in the General Chat.

distance 08-22-2007 10:02 PM

box score says littleton came in with a 14-3 lead.
easiest save ever?

ratking17 08-22-2007 10:05 PM

I was actually watching the game on the baltimore station and even their announcers were having a good time with it. They were making a few jokes though like the balt manager who signed the extention today and how maybe management wanted to rethink that decision...

silent_brian13 08-22-2007 10:05 PM

The save statistic in baseball is used to give credit to the relief pitchers who come into games with their team ahead and keep them ahead through the end.

might be the easiest save. now i want to find out.

i've watched a _LOT_ of baseball in the past 20 years.

Nate the Grate 08-22-2007 10:11 PM

David Murphy had 5 hits!

The Omega Concern 08-23-2007 12:17 AM

they score 30 runs and strike out 11 times? hah. that's funny.

im down for baseball trivia anytime.

i remember watching the Twins vs. Red Sox when the Twins pulled two triple plays in the same game. both 5-4-3 textbooks hit hard to Gary Gaetti who just stepped on 3rd and then basically finished off a 'routine' double-play after that.

i think it's the only game ever with 2 triple plays, if i recall correctly.

nice going. who's the dumbest smart guy here again? i mean if a game was 14-3 after seven i don't see how could it have ever been close enough for a typical save situation.

silent_brian13 08-23-2007 12:39 AM

you a rangers fan trots?

ratking17 08-23-2007 12:42 AM

I saw "hard hittin" Mark Whitten hit 4 home runs and 12 RBI's in one game. That was cool. I also saw Jim Thome's 400 HR in philly and saw Doug Drabek lose a no hitter to the phils with 2 outs in the 9th.

i don't like baseball much at all, and if i have to pick a team it would be the Astros or the Tigers.

silent_brian13 08-23-2007 12:52 AM

just wondering...if you were i was thinking it must have been a great feeling seeing or watching that game

Trotskilicious 08-23-2007 01:05 AM

well if it was me i'd be bored

i don't get off watching texas dust north texas by a score of 55-7

silent_brian13 08-23-2007 01:06 AM

what about say...national championship games?

i'm not gonna lie..i was the only one at my party who didn't want to turn the channel even when chris leak and florida had clearly devoured the buckeyes

Trotskilicious 08-23-2007 01:08 AM

oh i turned that off way early, and i really dispise Ohio State and took a lot of gratification in watching them get waxed. but still, it's boring.

The Omega Concern 08-23-2007 01:44 AM
