I can't help but question how much its about oil. Don't we get the majority of our our supply from Canada and Mexico (neither of have any chance of running out of oil or turning against us).

For the record,I live in NYC. I think the "war on terrorism" is fucking stupid. You can't change the way people think. People hate Americans because we tend to be arrogant fucks in the political world "our way, or we'll bomb you". It's really not a great global policy in my opinion. There will always be anti-american sentiments in the world, regardless of who we kill. It will only make the hatred stronger. I'm not saying that we should have done nothing after 9/11... but bombing the fuck out of Afghanistan wasn't the right thing to do. All we need to do is kill Osama to make him Jesus Christ in the eyes of every person who follows him- and we'll have human bombs going off in the subways and on the buses, just like Israel. The media is telling us that security is being beefed up- bull fucking shit. These people are still being let into this country, they are still bring weapons with them. Homeland security my ass. I'm moving to Canada.

It's not just about having a supply of oil - the US has good reserves, although as resources dwindle the Middle East will be increasingly important as a provider of energy supplies. Oil is also hard currency, oil corporations are the richest in the world, and they contribute to western economy. You control oil, you control the industrialized world.
