2002 Oscar Noms to be announced today

Right now, the predictions are that it's gonna be a tossup between A Beautiful Mind and The Lord of the Rings for most nominations. Both of those movies are likely Best Picture nominees. Other likely Best Pic noms are In The Bedroom, Black Hawk Down, and Moulin Rouge.

Well, before the actual nominations come on...what're YUOR picks?

pale_princess 02-12-2002 10:12 AM

i'm wet in anticipation. as russell crowe is probably taking a shot every time he's nominate.d

scouse_dave 02-12-2002 10:16 AM

i hope LotR doesn't win anything, that's my only hope

that film was painful to sit through

ravenguy2000 02-12-2002 10:18 AM

I'm just hoping that all that films that I liked are nominated, so my opinions feel justified and my self-esteem is boosted.

I was happy to see renee zellwegger acknowledged- no one thought she could do bridget jones and she did.

And even as I admit to a 12+ year obsession with ethan hawke I have to scratch myself at his nomination.

doctor gonzo 02-12-2002 11:58 AM

i hope A.I. wins for musical score. it's one of John Williams' best.
The Man Who Wasn't There ought to win for cinematography.

also rooting for LOTR. i'm not proud.

No, only the lack thereof in your statement about LOTR.

ravenguy2000 02-12-2002 01:20 PM

This has been a very good year for movies. Odd considering that last year was just wretched.

Gosford park kicks all those movies' asses up there in Best Picture. And Maggie Smith better win best suppporting - if Jennifer connelly wins i'm going to vomit.
Unfortunately Amelie didn't win best foreign at the Golden's... but what do they know anyway..

albanystudent 02-12-2002 03:13 PM

my picks.

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Russell Crowe
Sean Penn- I hope he never wins. Playing retard to win an Oscar scheme is old. Should have ended with Cliff Robertson, with the exception of Daniel Day Lewis.
Will Smith- Since when was he a serious actor?
Denzel Washington
Tom Wilkinson

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Jim Broadbent
Ethan Hawke- Yuck
Ben Kingsley- Filler. They're never gonna give him 2 Oscars.
Ian McKellen
Jon Voight- sentimental fave

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Halle Berry- token blactress who would have had a better shot for supporting
Judi Dench
Nicole Kidman- We're supposed to feel bad for her for breaking up with tom and now we have to award her with an oscar?
Sissy Spacek
Renée Zellweger

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Jennifer Connelly
Helen Mirren
Maggie Smith
Marisa Tomei- WTF? She's nominated again! I thought she was just a one hit wonder like Hilary Swank.
Kate Winslet

Tom Cruise should have won for "Born on the 4th of July" over Daniel Day Lewis that year. what a disappointment....

Ron Kovic v. Christy Brown? There's no challenge.

Virex_Gaze6 02-12-2002 03:25 PM

LOTR!!!! should win them all!

yeah, but when's the next time Cruise will actually deserve an Oscar? granted, his performance in Magnolia was great, but hardly Oscar-worthy.

i was pissed when Burt Reynolds lost for Boogie Nights, too.

The exploding boy 02-12-2002 05:29 PM

It's sad that PEarl harbor has any nominations. I don't care if it's for effects, it's still sad.

Graveflower 02-12-2002 05:35 PM

That's fucking terrible.

Moulin Rouge for best picture?

I'd put Royal Tenenbaums, Waking life, Trembling Before G-d, Shrek, or Amelie way before that load.

Graveflower 02-12-2002 05:39 PM

WHAT THE FUCK

TREMBLING BEFORE G-D DIDN'T GET NOMINATED?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

I'd rather him win for Harry Potter http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/tongue.gif But, uh, I haven't heard the A.I. score. Still... GO HARRY!

Me too. Not proud. I hope it'll be LOTR, but... it probably won't be.

My hopes:
Best Actor - Will Smith
I haven't seen Ali yet, even - but, I just think he doesn't get half the credit he deserves. I think he's remarkably talented. Plus, Russell got it last year! http://www.netphoria.org/wwwboard/wink.gif Even though I think Russell Crowe deserves best actor more for A Beautiful Mind than he did for Gladiator

Supporting Actor - Ethan Hawke or Ian McKellan
Best Actress - Judi Dench
Supporting Actress - Jennifer Connelly
Art Direction - *SO* Moulin Rouge
Score - Harry Potter
Song - Lord of The Rings
Best Picture - Lord of the Rings

*sigh*
*goes back to the loser table and sits down*

I'm really glad to see these, except for the fact that Moulin Rouge was completely robbed in Best Director and Best Song/Score categories (NO -- I'm not talking about Lady Marmelade -- the version of Roxanne rocks, though!).
