the marked were pretty awesome, really
and ron roesing had some serious drum chops. if you haven't heard mastery + conjecture the whole way through...do it.

almost sounds like it could be jimmy
ed: specifically referring to drum fills halfway through m+c |

lol. Whatever man. The Marked were really bad.
they might've had a crappy sound and horrible vocals/cheesy goth lyrics but they had a shitload of potential and made some really interesting music. easily as different and unique as anything sp ever did, imo. diverse and progressive yet accessible. it was really going somewhere.
why do you always have such a hard on for pre-SP material?
just interested in exploring how billy developed his musical style. seems like he knew what he was doing from before he even picked up a guitar. and who's to say some of his earlier stuff can't be as good as his pumpkins output?
he once said that his early music sounded like a car crash. and he didn't mean that in a positive way.
I thought the Scary Neurotic Song was ok.
Haha okay the Marked are really, really bad.
Nothing to see here people, move along. |

i should've posted a youtube question asking billy to rework and release some marked records. light years better than any contemporary indie band us shits listen to.
the marked had some good ideas, but no outline for what they wanted song by song. it was like a bad acid trip. some really cool things going on, but the terrible things that make you want to claw off your face don't stop.
with some good production and studio time, they could have been bearable. as it is, however, they are not. |

but, back to the music. yes it is like a bad trip and maybe lacks focus in the sense that it doesn't have its own defined sound...but so what? at that age, they were still making some really different and cool songs that don't really sound too much like what other goth/new wave bands were doing around the time. the distorted guitars sounded dreadfully crusty and the vocals were weak, but they had good riffs, melodies, structures, drums, bass, and just ideas in general. from all angles. they would have been a great band. billy is full of shit if he says he's embarrassed by the marked phase. anyone who doesn't appreciate and respect the marked is a tool. |

shut up isle goddamn.
don't feel bad just cause you'll never be as successful as the marked.
I think all of their stuff had potential and that some people don't appreciate it because it wasn't professionally done production-wise. My only critism was Dale's vocals. Billy's were not perfect, but his always seemed quite a bit better. Dale's always sounded like he was trying to sound like Robert Smith.

god that was terrible.
I know they were young and had no money but it doesn't make up for the sad state of songwriting for that band. There are plenty of bands that were young and broke and created near masterpieces. The Marked did not write good songs. The end.
