How are you feeling about Zeitgeist now?

Now that you have had a few days to digest it.........

There is lots of negativity and lots of contrasting positivity and I wanted to know what the overall feeling was on the album now and how people are taking the album after a few days of listening.

I know there has already been a poll rating it but that was on the same day it was leaked.

ARE YOU FEELING THE ZEITGEIST?

EDIT: AS PEOPLE HAVE POINTED OUT "DISAPPOINTED" DEPENDS ON EXPECTATIONS SO PLEASE INTERPRET THAT TO MEAN "POOR" ASWELL.

Thanks.

Trotskilicious 07-05-2007 04:57 AM

is there something inbetween disappointed (which I'm not really since it was kind of expected) and total disaster? I'm thinking "pretty shitty."

Trotskilicious 07-05-2007 04:57 AM

this poll is worthless without being public

Stop being pedantic. Your answer should be dissapointed then.

For clarification - for the purpose of this poll dissapointed means if you think it is a poor album but not a total disaster, regardless of what you were expecting.

I wrote this poll because there seems to be a lot of criticism of the album.

Personally I love it, and I wanted to see if the haters were just a minority or just a few trolls or if in fact the album is being perceived badly by the majority.

thurston 07-05-2007 05:23 AM

yeah it was really hard to not be biased when listening to it at first, given billys late failures and all...

i hated it at first, but its growing on me...

caliphornia 07-05-2007 05:26 AM

disappointed.

thurston 07-05-2007 05:35 AM

can you really consider it dissappointment when clearly we knew beforehand it wasn't going to be the revolutionary pumpkins we grew to love? (and evidently hate here on netphoria)...

you can't be dissappointed when you expect nothing...

In many ways, especially when considering statistical metadata, I would agree, but it's not entirely worthless.

Changed the question to account for this.

mccririck 07-05-2007 08:06 AM

I voted disaster. Really I think it's in between disappointed and disaster though.

Yes you can. You could have been hoping for something good and got a turd.

trev 07-05-2007 08:38 AM

yeah, if i think about this album as a billy corgan solo album, i think it's good. but to give it the smashing pumpkins name feels both wrong and like a drop in standards.

music is good, production is pretty average at best.

compared to the real pumpkins, it's nothing.

edit - to sum up, it's what TFE could've / should've been.

It's the extreme minority on this board. They just post more.

TAFH 07-05-2007 09:54 AM

is there an option worse than disaster ? How about "selling your soul, and your country, a political ideal, and the name of the band that made you famous, for money" option...

mccririck 07-05-2007 10:01 AM

Less than half are loving it.

Cool As Ice Cream 07-05-2007 10:07 AM

I hope they release a new album soon.

Yes but 15% of that 25% have relcutantly admitted it is ok.

That's only 10% that basically hate it.

4 have rated it as their favourite album!

The only problem with Zeitgeist for me (and I voted that I loved it) is that there are no 10/10 songs.

I gave Muzzle, Disarm, Mayonaise, Here is no Why, Tonight Tonight, Zero, Galapogos and some others 10/10.

Here there are four 9/10 songs and about four or five 8/10 songs but so far for me no 10/10 songs.

Don't get me wrong, I still love it and that is still good enough for me.

that's so touching

fmrees 07-05-2007 10:36 AM

Cool album - some real Smashing Pumpkins stuff in it.

panopticon 07-05-2007 10:36 AM

I'm enjoying the album with each listen, there's nothing wrong with it. If he just recorded new versions of your favourite songs would you clap along and kiss the ground he walked on?

astrosfan719 07-05-2007 10:38 AM

I just want him to reproduce the album and turn the fucking vocals down then I'd love it.

smashingjj 07-05-2007 10:42 AM

I was kind of disappointed when it was released, my opinion about the album is now more heading towards "complete disaster"

The Melty Man 07-05-2007 10:44 AM

It's okay, got a few good songs on it, namely Bleeding, Starz, That's the Way, and that's about it.

smashingjj 07-05-2007 10:46 AM

there's just very little to like about it

- production sucks
- style is totally worn out and uncreative
- only 3 or 4 of the songs have redeeming qualities songwriting-wise. songs are bland and directionless generally
- it never gets really heavy nor is it touching in any way
- the dynamic is fucked up

You pay way too much attention to the technical issues, which this album might indeed have. I cannot understand it, I just receive that album as every other music: as an act of artistic expression, not piece of cratsmanship, as you apparently do. Yoo lose much.

Music should be a piece of craftsmanship. If it isnt, you lose much.

No, I like good songs and original music.

ok, let me restate that: it shouldn't be ONLY a piece of craftsmanship.
It's obvious that when I read a book I pay attention to the grammar and mistakes distract me a bit from focusing on, for example, great storyline, but admit it, perfectly written (from a technical point of view) book with shitty content is still crap. The same goes to music and that's what I meant.
