So, why do you all think Billy has been so secretive about details of the band? Why haven't they really given us ANY information on the new album? What the hell is going on?

It's pretty invigorating actually.

As he said in an interview, if he brought back the original lineup he would take a lot of heat for rounding up a reunion just for the sake of nostalgia, and if he sets up a new band he'll take a lot of heat for "no longer being the pumpkins." He's said for years that the original members would never get together again, so the only real mystery has been who the touring musicians would be.

We have the title, the release date, and a few vague comments about the sound. This is the same information we've had about every other release beforehand. Whenever he's tried to give more information, about Adore for example, it's been misinterpreted and caused disappointment.

I think that everyone already knew deep down inside that it wasn't going to be the lineup of the original four. And the suspense was already there the minute that it was announced that the Smashing Pumpkins were getting back together and writing material for a new album.

I think hereisnowhy hit the nail on the head. Perhaps for once Billy is going to put up and to let the music speak for itself. I don't anyone's going to know who's in the band until the walk out on stage in about a month.

We already know who's in the band...but I agree with your other sentiments.

They are totally filming the reunion. It is going to be released as part of a 3 DVD multipack with the Metro DVD and some TFE hilarious outtakes.
