i was just gonna ask if you were an alt metal band, but the pictures answered my question. i never really got into PRS guitars for some reason, a couple of my friends have them. i dunno, they never sound warm enough.

Try a Singlecut. I got rid of a Les Paul Standard because of the extra warmth that the SC gave me :D
They are truly amazing guitars. The Standard 24 is my main though because of the super fast neck and coil tap.

BlissedandGone2 02-14-2007 08:45 PM

spguitar, have you played parkers? the one piece, not the bolt on. theyre unbelievable, if youre into fast necks i dont think theres one faster.

RopeyLopey 02-14-2007 08:46 PM

spguitar, do you have any sweaters?

Yeah i played a couple of them. Very nice guitars but the body is too thin for me. Great necks.

Nah. I hate sweaters. I'm quite content with my band tshirts.

BlissedandGone2 02-14-2007 08:47 PM

Well... I have one from when i was bout 5 years old. Does that count?

Mood ring 02-14-2007 08:50 PM

hey spguitar,

have you thought about growing out the hair a bit and getting rid of blue jeans? im sure you're a fine player...

it's just me I suppose, but...i think if you're gonna go on-stage looking exactly like the people in the audience it diminishes the purpose for them and the artist. rock on!

post a pic. IF you could get your hands on Bolly's MCIS reindeer sweater, would you get over your sweater-aversion?

monkeyfritters 02-14-2007 08:52 PM

spguitar, do you highly recommend the jmp-1? i was thinking about getting one but now i've got a jcm 800 pre-amp in one of the inputs of my ampeg v4. i don't do metal but i need a variety of distortion sounds.

Man it's in my closet and i have a 10 space rack + my amp in the way.
Also, no i wouldn't wear a deer sweater. haha

Boycott Graceland 02-14-2007 08:53 PM

this thread is still lacking sweaters.

It can do everything i throw at it. HIGHLY recommended. It's not just a SP preamp. I use the Deep mode on the Strategy 500 and it sounds like a Bogner.

I don't really get into the "Image" of a rock band really. That's how we draw a crowd now is being ourselves having fun on stage. We goof off alot.

not to interupt, but i reccomend going to distortion in pedals or a pedal system, finding an amp that has 2 channel selectors for more tweaking and stuff, but dont count on the amps distortion to cover you. i always find its way more important to find an amp with great clean tone than distortion. tubes can get you some power and if you get a nice little pedal set up going you can drop a bomb and still come back to something really nice and warm and clean. my friends got this insane mesaboogie and its got a shitload of distortion options, tons of channels at different gain levels and all i still think it sounds shitty compared to me jcm2000 and the regular channel selector.

monkeyfritters 02-14-2007 08:56 PM

haha for your song "wake up," i think your singer stole a line from a POD or papa roach song. "i feel so alive." i mean, that's a pretty standard sentiment to express but when you add all the nu-metal trimmings it's kind of funny.

i know that when i play shows, the only reason people come to see us play is because we dress like orca whales. image is everything.

Yeah i mess with him about it all the time. At least it's not on the chorus. Breath Of Life is my favorite of the bunch. I used my '67 SG Special on the clean bridge part. Such a different tone.

i've got just about every distortion pedal known to man. the ampeg v4 has amazing clean and overdrive sounds. the jcm 800 preamp has the best rock distortion i've ever heard. it was the sound of rock for 20 years. the reason im considering the jmp-1 is for high gain scenarios which pedals can't cover.

it's all good. and it does look like the audience is having a good time in that one shot.

growing out hair (if one's lucky enough to do it), isn't necessarily an image push. I've always looked at it as someone's who's willing to live their life in a way they have never lived it before and the growth of the hair stands for the growth of that path.

rock on!

jcm 800 is the sauce man, definatly a classic

no, i mean i understand what youre going for, i guess i just hate when i push things to far and get carried with the distortion. it just drowns things out, and i prefer a strong contrast between clean and distortion than simply just an overpowering distortion, ya know what i mean?
i dunno, i guess it just a personal thing. i dont know what kind of music youre playing or anything so i should probably keep my mouth shut since im in a jazz-fusion band. still, its always more about the way you play than the volume. once you figure out a really decent sound for the way you play, thats when you start fucking with that stuff. now....

can we get back to sweaters?

I agree with this. you don't need a certain image to play rock. look at all those goofballs in the deftones (probably a terrible example) they play some metal (more like post-rock/nu-metal) shit but dress pretty much like wigger stoners

it really doesn't matter what you dress like

just because bands like led zeppelin dressed a certain way and then became icons of rock music doesn't mean everyone should have to copy

all this gear you've invested in and you still can't write a decent song.

Rarely 02-14-2007 09:10 PM

then again, most of the bands which people base their clothe styles off of dressed differently onstage than when they were in the studio or at their homes.
