Is it just me or is the media completel;y ignoring the GOP candidate announcements?

There's no incumbent, so I don't get why all of the coverage has been about Obama/Clinton/Edwards. It seems the only GOP candidate even mentioned has been McCain. There has been hoopla and a circus involving Hilary's official announcement (as there was of her pending announcement) but I haven't even heard Sam Brownback or Duncan Hunter mentioned once.

If political success is tied to face time, and face time is a result of the media, and the media is only showing one party.. what does that say about the media?

Mayfuck 01-22-2007 08:15 PM

It has nothing to do with political party or an imagined liberal bias and everything to do with hype surrounding a woman or black candidate. If Condolezza threw her hat into the ring the media would be all over it, regardless of party.

BlueStar 01-22-2007 08:18 PM

Hillary, Obama, and McCain are the big names. Most people don't know of or give a shit about Brownback, etc. Same goes for Dodd and Gravel on the Dem side - there is virtually no mention of them in the media either.

wally 01-22-2007 09:45 PM

Brownback got a hell of a reception on Fox and Friends

homechicago 01-22-2007 10:09 PM

female and black man.

richardson got no play either, and he has a real shot.

also the dems are funny because half the party wants to run. who ISN'T going to run is the better question.

hope brownback didn't get too corrupt under delay. gop ethics issues are probably keeping the field small on that side of the aisle now that the monarchy is fading.

Dude, the evil librul media just loved to beat up on Al Gore about the dumbest shit in 1999-2000, and there was quite a lot of Bush love going around at the same time.

Rarely 01-23-2007 01:43 AM

man no one gives a fuck about gop u faggot

Karl Connor 01-23-2007 01:31 PM

hillary and obama are prospective candidates. its near impossible for the GOP to compete in terms of media attention

since last november its pretty clear america is "ready for a change" and its no secret there's a very, very good chance of a democratic president elect in 08 -- unless there's a left turn somewhere (bin laden captured, "victory" in iraq, ect). all eyes on the dems

sppunk 01-23-2007 01:53 PM

It's not the party, Mike, it's the candidates.

When Tom Vilsack announced, there was nothing major. When a black dude and woman who are very, very popular people announce, it's much bigger news. Same with McCain - he had a lot of media mention. Bill Richardson didn't get nearly as much play as he would have had not Obama and Clinton announced in the days prior.

Karl Connor 01-23-2007 01:54 PM

a lot of ppl are talking about that mormon dude.

seriously, some old fucking rich white guy is running on the GOP ticket ALERT THE PRESS

Cup O Mercury 01-28-2007 07:10 PM

I think they are getting lots of attention because eighty percent of all American media is liberal.
Most anything you see or read is having orgasms for the Libs.
I saw some media coverage over the former mayor of New York who may be running.

Effloresce 01-28-2007 07:24 PM

You guys are fucking retarded, This Week just had an interview with Duncan Hunter this morning.

There are more Democratic candidates making announcements a lot more frequently, it can't be ignored -- even Pat Buchanan said this is the first time in a long time where the GOP was pretty much devoid of any hopeful candidates at this point, save McCain (who would lose anyway) and Rudy (who would also lose). Don't blame that on the liberal media.

i am not a mccain supporter, but i really think he would beat either obama or hillary. also the only reason obama is "big news" and a "big name" is because the media made him that way - it is certainly not due to his years of service

Future Boy 01-28-2007 07:54 PM

I think Rudy's the best chance the GOP has, I think he can take either. While the Media had something to do with Obamas hype, there is no one to really talk about on the Repub side. They get the same coverage as the long shots on the dem side get.

So to get media attention, you have to be a "hopeful candidate." But how do you become a "hopeful candidate" without media attention? How come its only the more liberal types (Democrats and "moderate" Republicans) who manage to get past this Catch 22?

sppunk 01-28-2007 07:58 PM

Rudy was HATED before Sept. 11, 2001. He was about to get his ass kicked in his bid for the Senate by Hilary until the best day of his life, career-wise at least.

No way in hell does he win any nomination.

I also don't believe Obama has a chance in hell to win a nomination.

Ol' Couch Ass 01-28-2007 08:54 PM

^ I would be really surprised if rudy wins the GOP nomination. Hell McCain is having to snuggle up to Falwell just to have a shot at getting the nod.

I didn't say you have to be a rock star, but for whatever reasons there haven't been as many Republicans wanting to make a big announcement. Duncan Hunter, ooh. :noway:

Clinton makes a lot of news because she's a Clinton. If Jeb Bush announced tomorrow that he was going to run for President, they'd be talking about it CONSTANTLY and you know it.

Barack Obama makes a lot of news because he's extremely charismatic, and would be the first black President if elected.

Maybe if the GOP would try to get a minority to talk about running and stop focusing on boring wrinkly old white men, Obama would have some competition. Hillary they have obsessed over for years, and to a lesser extent, McCain. But with Hillary, you have a double whammy; she's a Clinton and a woman, taking a chance at winning the White House.

homechicago 01-29-2007 12:58 PM

to me this looks like the 04 run. spend lots of time talking and tearing down the dems and pay no attention to the gop in the corner. seriously, think about how much time was devoted to questioning kerry about everything while w just went on vacay. w didn't have to talk about his record, iraq, or anything. personally, i think it's a gop strategy to keep the spotlight on the dems and what they are or aren't doing so the gop can sail through the media hype. pretty smart in my opinion.

Effloresce 01-29-2007 03:54 PM

I don't think it will be so easy for the Republicans this time. In '04, everyone knew Bush was their guy. This time, that's not the case. They have to start sparking some interest.

Yes, like Obama sparked interest by being "young" and "black"

C'mon, you know the media pretty much chooses our candidates

SP4Me 01-29-2007 10:05 PM

Gosh, I wish Oprah would just throw her hat in the ring already!

what a disappointment he turned out to be. in 2000, he would have had my vote.

To an extent, yes.

The comparisons on what he said about Iraq are pretty revolting. I mean, he just didn't change his opinion like, say, John Kerry -- he basically lied to his former self. Saying that he knew it would be hard when he voted, when he's on record as saying it would be EASY. He's losing a debate with himself. What a terrible way to go out. And not to mention, embarrassing.

John McCain should have never changed after he got beat in the 2000 primary. He was smart enough then to see why some of Bush's ideas weren't right for the country (at the time), but sadly, he wasn't smart enough to stay true to himself and wait for the right moment for it to all fall apart for Bush (like right now).

Swift Boat ads were blatant lies

all this vid was showing is how mccain is going any way the wind blows. it's mccain speaking about issues with no apparent permanent stance.

he's lost his compass. the swiftboat ads showed random war photos while guys who weren't present during supposed events trashed a man who served his country honorably. even mccain said the swiftboat ads were a disgrace. he was swiftboated by the same outfit in 2000.

i don't hate mccain. it's just a huge letdown that he now cozies up to religious nutjobs lilke falwell. he's better than that
