Programs to make short video clips from video files and / or DVDs?
I am in need of a program which would allow me to make short (a couple minutes at the most) video clips from either video files (.avi or .mpg) or from a DVD. A free one would be ideal because I'll probably use it once and never again. Regarding video files, somebody already recommended VirtualDub, which is about as idiot proof as I need but I keep getting either no audio or an error with very out of sync audio. Any help is appreciated since I have no clue about this stuff.

Er, anybody?

What kind of files do you need? Like what are you using them for? Vdub doesn't do mpeg, so if you're making dvds with it that's gonna complicate things
There's a program I used once that was pretty much an all-in-one solution, it wasn't great but it might be just what you want here. Let me find it, hold on |

What do you mean what kind of files? Like, an output file? I don't want to make a DVD but if the program could rip a short clip off of a DVD that would work. I'll probably just stick them on a CDR. It's for school; I have to write a paper analyzing a fictional character using one of the psychological theories of personality we used this semester. If the character is literary, she wants the book and if they are in a film or television, she wants clips. She's anal and I sort of forgot about this part seeing as though I'm having trouble on the paper itself.

Haha ok, so basically you just want them ready to play in a computer. Yeah that program should hopefully handle everything for you
