Huge Prince fan obviously

the cars - the cars
there are some blatant lifts from 'sabbath bloody sabbath' and 'masters of reality' by black sabbath in the mellon collie era material. if you can't hear them, you know fuck all about music, buddeh. |

An artist Billy obviously loves since he has done at least 2 covers of his tunes (plus the dead project of Numan/Replicas cover band, back in 1996). What a great artist, too bad he is a long forgotten one. |
he likes the album Queen II- he says its his all-time favorite

And b0LLyZ has cited Low, and Seventeen Seconds many times, as well as Sisters Of Mercy's first LP He either picks odd "honorary" #1 fave albums, or just has strange taste in good bands. No way is 17seconds thebest Cure LP, and SoM made their move with Floodland *ahem* back to Billy and not me |
while it's hard to compare seventeen seconds and records like kiss me or disintegration, to me it's the best in the way the album works as one piece. the album is the hit song or whatever. it's an album you can get lost in, and it's not as tortured as most [all?] of the others.

Albums I've seen him mention:
The Beatles - Rubber Soul Black Sabbath - Master of Reality Van Halen - Fair Warning (he interviewed Eddie Van Halen for a guitar magazine back in the 90s, I think I still have the magazine somewhere) Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power Judas Priest - Unleashed in the East In a MCIS interview James mentions that there a lot of Judas Priest riffs in the new album and he says he could point them out if you want and Billy goes "no dont!" |

In fact, maybe half of me is joking.... Since Cars & not THE cars is a Gary Numan song. the Cars is, indeed, a very good band to check, and a very influential one too for Billy & cie. |
I think he mentioned he liked a band called Rainbow.
i never heard of them. |

I don't know really specific albums, but I know bands. He likes david bowie, T.Rex, big star, and joy division |
oh, and also the frogs and thin lizzie... I read something about bc going up on stage with a paper bag over his head and playing guitar with the frogs
|

Rainbow was a big one, didn't he say something once about being pissed when he went to see Blackmore and Man on the Silver Mountain wasn't played?
Also, I thought his favorite album was one by Rush...I forget which... |

Cool enough, Robert Smith loves The Pumpkins quite a bit. Robert said in '97 that he never thought he'd love a band as much as he did when he was a teenager until SP came along.

Actually Rainbow can be a fun band, when in the right mood i.e. fantasy imagery, guitar heroics etc. The song you mention is a good one. Quote:

I'm pretty sure that besides Ace of Base, New Order(and, JD, of course) is a pretty big influence on BC. I'd like to assume its from records like Everything Gone Green (or Closer).
Also, I remember from his Zwan-era iTunes playlist, he had Siouxie and the Banshees and Mahaveeshnu Orchestra (forgive my spelling). The first is a nod to Smith and the second made a few VERY SOLID albums. So these must be his favorites. |
