So I got my nose pierced
 

and it didnt really hurt. I got it on my left nostril, a small hoop. Looks bitchin

it's a very thin hoop... from about 15 ft away you can't even see it.

I also got a smaller eyebrow stud thingy. The other one was huge this one is noice

can you guys help me understand? i just want to know the thought process that makes you put a piece of metal through your body as an ornament (other than ear rings, given that nearly everyone's mother has pierced ears, so that makes more sense to me)

My nose had 2 convenient holes in it when I was born. No need for piercing, the snot flows freely. :)

i would assume for the same reason... why does piercing one part of your body make more sense than another?

because earrings are commonplace and more generally accepted. it's not outside of the realm of reasonable for a girl to feel 'left out' if she doesn't wear earrings. but that's not generally as true for other piercings. not trying to say other piercings aren't generally accepted, but it's the extent to which they're accepted that i'm using to distinguish

in western society its more "accepted" to pierce earlobes... but its still the same act of putting a piece of metal through your body.

i've never heard of or seen a sphincter piercing... people do gooch piercings though.
