Amazing that $250 sounds like dirty cheap at this point.

america is where this thing is going to be the toughest sell and making it more expensive here (in japan it's pretty much $200) isnt going to help

SNES, N64, and GameCube retailed for $200. That seems to be where they liked to stay. But the rules have changed across the board this gen. Nintendo is overpricing their hardware; Wii is basically an upgraded GameCube, it's not worth $250. They aren't even releasing the specs this time, and with the higher than usual price tag I can see why; it would actually work against them. Journalists would analyze the hardware line by line and make you realize how overpriced it all is. I predicted this is why they didn't release the specs, because they wanted to price it really high, knowing MS and Sony would only have more expensive options. It would not surprise me if Wii is really only worth $150-180.

Nintendo _knows_ they can overprice it. Thank Sony and MS. The extra profit they'll be making will be very beneficial to them. $250 is a lot for a Nintendo console, but they can always argue that theirs is still the cheapest. Because it is. Not to mention, because they are overpricing, pricedrops will be no problem for Nintendo. I would expect to see the Wii retail for only $180-200 next year. One year at $250 isn't a bad deal for Nintendo. In comparison, it will take MS and Sony two years for a pricedrop, most likely. Expect 360 Premium at $300 next year (no more core pack), and PS3 $600 model at maybe $450 or $500 in 2008. Nintendo has a head start on this and they haven't even released Wii yet. They can pricedrop whenever one of their competetors wants to, and if they were smart about it, could do it a second time (when Sony probably does it in 2008). MS and Sony don't have that advantage right now. Nintendo has positioned themselves in a great place strategically. Now they just need to make sure people are really interested in their games with some killer exclusives.

the new zelda alone will make it worth that price, let alone the multitude of classic titles you will be able to play on it...

Nintendo was 10 years late to the party with Virtual Console. My softmodded Xbox with ZSNES (100% perfect emulation) lets me play any SNES game I want :D

I agree, the exclusives will be great, though. Mario looks awesome.

I can't buy a 360 or a wii because I know in my heart that I need to play the next gta game as soon as it comes out on the ps3.

Either way I'm hoping it's going to be nicer on the ps3, and I bought an official ps1 and ps2.. I only got an xbox about 10 months ago cause it was mod'd to shenanigans.

Yeah, I think I'm just getting a PS3. Next-gen is too expensive for more than one console.

I am glad I bought an Xbox, it was fun softmodding it, and now it serves as a Nintendo, Super Nintendo and Genesis whenever I want. Plus it's fun to play Ninja Gaiden every now and then.

As for GTA, I don't know. Your guess is as good as mine.

Everyone hates on Blu-Ray for being too expensive, but I think it's a step in the right direction. Oblivion devs already admitted that they had to cut corners to ensure all the textures fit onto a DVD9. That's a problem. People say multidisc games are the solution, but when you're playing a game in a huge seamless world, that's hard to do. Then you have to cleverly split everything up and it probably will limit the amount of exploring you can do.

I don't have modding (soldering) skills so I just softmodded it. I needed to order some cable from Hong Kong, and a $1 game from eBay, big deal.

I bought it modded with an xecuter chip with 80 odd xbox games on the 320gb hard drive, and all the dashes and apps and all that ready installed

I played Chrono Trigger on my Xbox back in May. Never played it to the end before (well a few years ago I played it on the PC using an emu, but stopped), what a great game.

Now there's no way in hell I'm not getting one. I probably won't stand in line for hours to pick one up, but I might be able to swing one for Christmas. I hope it guts the XBOX 360, I really do.

The price is fine considering the controller technology probably isn't cheap. The games on the xbox360 look about the same as the xbox if you don't have an hdtv, which I don't. Besides, if nintendo has taught us anything with the DS, you don't need to have the most powerful machine to have the most fun.
