Mac OS X Leopard

wow... Apple is amazing

http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/

this is by far the coolest feature

http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/timemachine.html

Aeroplane 08-07-2006 04:41 PM

i'm giddy!

Quiet CD 08-07-2006 04:44 PM

I'm practically cumming in my pants.

MercuryChild 08-07-2006 04:48 PM

I'm not liking Time Machine. the idea is great but you're gonna need so much HD space to use it. and the interface looks tacky.

duovamp 08-07-2006 04:49 PM

When I go to the Time Machine link Firefox crashes every time the video loads...

Floppy Nono 08-07-2006 04:51 PM

what's the point to deleting something if apple is going to still save it on your hdd incase you ever want to restore it? doesn't that totally negate the purpose of deleting?

agenda suicide 08-07-2006 04:52 PM

I don't even have tiger.
Time machine does look kinda nice after having lost a hard drive once already though.... Or maybe I should just have my shit backed up the normal way. Yeah.

I'm sorry, it seems like you're using logic in the computer world. That's where you went wrong.

i don't think time machine would save you from a fucked hard drive...it's not literal you know...and if it is im pissed that black sabbath song from waynes world isn't playing for it

Quiet CD 08-07-2006 04:54 PM

The interface is cheeze, but the background could be changed easily... the idea is clever, especially for all the apps... but I think what it will do (in regards to HD space) is overwrite your oldest "deleted" data first and keeping more recent deleted material intact as long as possible... its not much different than file recovery software other than its intergrated into the OS and looks way fast.

Floppy Nono 08-07-2006 04:57 PM

if i delete something i want it off my hard drive. i don't want it hiding on there somewhere just incase i ever change my mind about deleting that picture of a table leg...

i guess that's just how i like to do things

I don't either, but you don't really delete stuff unless you do it in a manner where the data gets overwritten.

gpub 08-07-2006 05:08 PM

I love you apple computer

agenda suicide 08-07-2006 05:15 PM

okay does anyone else think the keyboards on the macBooks look weird? It's kinda neat.. but for some reason they really bother me.

shattering fast 08-07-2006 06:44 PM

Yeah Leopard looks fucking amazing, I'm converting. After I get a job.....

Quiet CD 08-07-2006 07:18 PM

Vista will be out maybe by then... I think Apple is holding on to alot of new improvements until a final release. Improved Finder and Expose especially.

wally 08-07-2006 07:23 PM

I should get a mac.

Luke de Spa 08-07-2006 07:24 PM

that virtual desktops thing seems pretty cool. they nicked that from linux, right?

time machine seems useful but not that amazing. i guess it's more for consumer-level use where users don't ever get close to filling their hard disks with content

There is already third party software that will do this in Tiger, just not as elegantly as Apple implemented it, they stole it just like Widgets.

Time Machine doesn't seem to be all that useful, but it might save one's ass one day when they least expect it.

1. Time machine aparrently only saves files modified since last time it backed up.
2. You will be able to exclude certain files or file types from it - just like spotlight.
3. I would not be surprised if spotlight actually let you search time machine.
4. You will be able to turn off Time Machine - if not through a preference pane, then through a third party utility, much like dashboard killer exists to turn off dashboard.

I want to buy a new iMac or Macbook cause my iMac is on it's last legs, but I don't want to buy one in the fall just to have a new OS 6 months later... but I really doubt this computer will hold up until next spring, it's pretty much dead as it is. Grr.
