Eric Stoltz (aka joeri) as Marty McFly in Back to the Future
Woax.
I knew Stoltz was originally up for this part and for some reason had been replaced by Fox, but I didn't know they had actually started shooting with him. Check this gallery out, there are 5 or 6 pages of shots from the movie; http://www.bttf.com/cgi-bin/ImageFol...as_Marty_McFly That's just mad to see ... I can't imagine Stoltz in that part. |
yeah, I wonder if anyone has any video footage. I never watched the bonus stuff on the DVD's maybe it's on there?? Still I wonder why they switched to Fox in the middle of filming. I'm glad they did though, I can't imagine anyone other than Michael J. Fox in that role.
|
Apparently it's not on as a bonus feature on the dvds or anything.
According to someone who's posting on the Empire boards, Stoltz played the character 'too intense' and Zemeckis brought in Fox.. Likewise though, I've seen at least most of that movie over 500 times easily when I was wee. I couldn't imagine anyone else playing Marty. |
I watched this yesterday wooo (BTF pt II)
|
I remember seeing an explanation on the switch to Fox, I could have sworn it was as a DVD bonus, but it was probably just a documentary on it.
|
He was a MUCH better Simon
|
YEAH, If i had a list of every movie i've ever seen and how many times i've seen that movie, the BTtF trilogy would be at the top of that list hands down. I couldnt count how many times i've seen them.

What, from that stupid angel / god movie thing? What was that called again? Wasn’t there a second one too? With a girl. And lots more guns? I think so, anyway. Prophecy? Was that it? With Christover Walken, right? It was a bit cheesy, but alright. It’s been a few years though. Then again, if I found it cheesy a few years ago, I’m sure I will now too. You know, I didn’t look at the pics really. It would help if I did. |

I think i did a good job. It truly was a pleasure working with them.
|
stoltz does look more like he could be george's son.... i didn't know they had shot so many scenes either. that's a lot of wasted shooting days.
|
it also seems he's wearing converse.... wasn't fox wearing nike ?

I really don’t know how I’m going to enjoy this movie if they neglected these essential facts. |
yah, that's probably the real reason why they changed actors.... Nike probably paid more money for them to use Fox

i'm thinking they switched to nike to pay for the lost shooting days... |
here's from IMDB :
Michael J. Fox had always been the first choice for Marty, but scheduling conflicts due to his work on "Family Ties" (1982), initially prevented him from taking the part. Eric Stoltz was initially cast as Marty, but Michael replaced him, driving straight to the movie set after taping of the show was finished every day. He averaged about one or two hours' sleep during production. The bulk of the production was filmed from 6pm to 6am, with the daylight scenes filmed at the weekend |
that explains why he always looked so tired. I figured it was just a side effect of time travel. Kind of like having jet lag.

|
As long as you have excuses that extend past apathy!
haha. |
I've read that the producers do apparently have video footage of Stoltz in the role but declined to put it on the DVDs as they thought it wouldn't be fair to him, or something. he must have done a really shitty job

Those pictures are kind of unsettling. Like glimpses of an alternate universe or something.
