Backwards compatibility in next-gen video game consoles
I saw a poll on www.gamespot.com talking about the backwards compatibility of next-gen consoles; specifically the X-Box 360. Microsoft has updated the list of X-Box games that will be playable on the 360. Microsoft's Peter Moore apparently said that nobody cares about backward compatibility. I disagree.
I got into a huge argument with my friend about B.C.. His argument, in a nutshell, is that people buy next-gen consoles to play next-gen games and that people can use their old consoles if they want to play old games; people say they want B.C., but the reality is they rarely take advantage of it. I, for one, would rather not deal with the hassle of having a bunch of console systems lying on my desk, and I in fact do play old PS1 games on my PS2 on a semi-regular basis. What do you guys think? |
BC is nice to have.
When I finally get a PS3 someday (in other words: when there's a price drop), I'm not going to want to keep my PS2 on the shelf. But there are still PS2 games that I'd want to play. Not to mention, it'll probably be dead by then. I've already had to take it apart to clean and recalibrate the laser. It's not going to last much longer beyond a year or so. Also, enhancements will be nice for PS3. I believe it will upscale everything and use really nice filtering. Not to mention FSAA, if I'm not mistaken. |
who cares about ps3...and moore didnt say nobody cares about it he said that it's not top priority anymore and it isn't...almost all of the best titles are BC so who cares if a few lesserknowns arent BC
|
every day ken says something new and increasingly insane about the ps3....i don't see the big deal that moore said it's not top priority (or nobody cares if thats how you take it)

Sony is flying way off the handle here, I could really give a shit about what Ken K and co. have to say anymore, because most of their comments now are just absurd.
That said, PS3 itself will still have awesome games and that's why I want it. Sadly, the people behind it are running around like a bunch of morons. It will also be interesting to see how the market responds to the pricetag once it's out. I see 360 getting lots of market share in the long run. It will be a much closer battle this gen. I therefore also expect this to be the end of Sony's dominance of the console industry. However, I don't think PS3 is the next 3DO. It could still easily outsell 360 if the loyalty is still there. How badly that loyalty will be damaged due to the price remains to be seen, but it will take a LOT to bring Sony down... |
thats the problem...the loyalty to a flawed product is what will keep sony in this game...crazy ken came out and said people would buy ps3 even if there were no games for it at launch and that's the sad thing...it's true
the ps3 is in no ways 300 dollars the superior of 360...the price is there just because of their blu-ray and the benchmarks prove that it is nowhere near the specs they cried and the 360 even beats it in some catagories with rumors from insiders that the specs might even be LOWERING before the final product hits the market that said....wii60 all the way! |
Yeah Wii and 360 fo' sho'. I think I'm going to buy a DS Lite in a day or two, aswell. New Super Mario Bros looks to awesome to pass up.
|
yeah...DS (and Lite) over psp any day... once again i can't believe they got away with selling that thing for 300 dollars for as long as they did and it only shows that it should have served as a warning for the price hike of the ps3

Well, judging by the results of this poll (and yes, it's only 11 votes, but it's still a little legit), I'd say that Peter Moore is full of shit.
