america's fattest/fittest cities

i don't see , they say "fat" but they take into account things besides weight and i don't think that's very fair. maybe they could say unhealthy and that would make more sense but of course health *******s cancer and the flu too so who knows anyways

Jan. 3, 2003 -- Houston is the couch potato capital of the U.S. and Honolulu is the fittest city, say the editors of Men's Fitness magazine.

The "America's Fattest City" award goes to Houston for the third year, uh, running. The ratings are based on a major city's score in several categories such as fruit/vegetable consumption, sports participation, smoking, drinking, air quality, and percentage of overweight/sedentary residents.

"Given the region's climate (hot and humid), air quality (abysmal), and relative lack of outdoor recreation, staying active presents a Texas-sized challenge," the magazine states. "And with its love of junk food, Houston is a vastrodome of bad nutrition."

If you don't live in Houston, don't let out your belt just yet. The annual ratings are meant as a wake-up call to stop what the CDC calls a national epidemic of obesity. Two in every three Americans have a serious weight problem.

Here's the magazine's list of America's 10 fattest cities:

Houston
Chicago
Detroit
Philadelphia
St. Louis
Cleveland
Atlanta
Columbus, Ohio
Dallas
Charlotte, N.C.

And its list of the 10 fittest cities:

Honolulu
Seattle
San Francisco
Colorado Springs, Col.
San Diego
Portland, Ore.
Denver
Virginia Beach, Va.
Tucson, Ariz.
Sacramento, Calif.

20% of all dutch children under 16 years of age has serious weight problems (as in: too heavy, not too slim). That's ridiculous. Next thing you'll see is that they'll make sidewalks wider to fit all these fat dutch people....

Ha, you should see what it's like in the U.S.

(Hmm...you know, they say that the percentage of overweight children here is so damn high...but I really don't see it. Maybe my area is just unusually thin.)

And yeah, when I saw the headline for that article it just said Houston was the fattest and I was all, 'Hm, I'm surprised Chicago isn't,' and then I saw that it was #2 and was all 'oh.' Ha. Or. Er, yeah.

2 out of 3 people have serious weight problems?

why don't i see more fat people?! everyone is skinny or just has a gut or something. does that count as a serious weight problem?! every once in a while i see a really fat person, but not every 3rd person!

I SMELL SENSATIONALISTS.

I grew up in Houston. I barely ever see fit looking older people. Fatties all over the place.

'serious' is a subjective word.

A serious weight problem to these poeple is 5 or more pounds under or overweight.
